Question about Toshiba Satellite M40-S417TD Notebook

Open Question

How do I find out if there is a restore partition on my Toshiba Satellite A85-S107?

I've tried holding down the "zero" button, per instructions, but it does not bring up the restore screen as the instructions say it should. I've tried tapping the key repeatedly, releasing it before and after the Toshiba logo screen comes up and it always just goes to through the normal boot up process. Am I doing something wrong or does this mean there is no partition and the laptop can only be wiped and Windows XP reloaded with the original boot up discs?

If it makes a either a griding noise or sounds like it's going to take flight, you may need to have the fan replaced. Even after dust collects in the motherboard compartment, or somehwere by the fans, dirt and oils tend to get stuck in the fan and ruin it. Have the fan replaced before it creates more damage. From what I am seeing I don't think your laptop has a recovery partition. Did you ever create the recovery discs for it when it was working?

you might want to try restarting the computer and as soon as you see the Toshiba logo on the screen start pressing F1. if that doesn't work try again and this time press F8. look for an option that says something like restore this computer. im not sure this model has a recovery partition. if it doesn't you'll probably need to get your hands on a Windows XP disk. you could ask a friend with a dell computer they may have their disk. or you could try a flea market. but before you erase your computer you need to make sure you have your coa sticker on the compter still. it looks like the sample im providing. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Try holding down the "0" (zero) key when you see the Toshiba logo when booting up.

I would like to restore my Toshiba Satellite laptop A85 to original state. Can I do this without the disks. I have backed up all of my information and want to start over.

It depends. Some laptop computers have a usually-hidden "recovery" partition on the disk-drive.

Reboot the computer, and look for a "start recovery" option as the first page of text on the computer-screen. Press the specified key to access that "recovery" partition.

Or, some Toshiba computers have a utility to *CREATE* a set of system-recovery CDs, by burning the necessary files onto CD/DVD-recordable disks. Run that utility.
