Question about Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 Notebook
The reason I need to do this is there is a program that's been loaded onto the laptop, to allow the laptop to connect to high speed internet in another country (I live overseas), that is now blocking all programs on the laptop from connecting to the LAN internet connection here in the States. I and my computer tech friends have been unable to locate this program, to uninstall it, and I have tried several points of system restore, none of which were successful. As I have a new laptop, I am just looking to give away the old one, with this rogue program on it, to a relative. Wiping and restoring WindowsXP will do just fine, but none of the instructions for initiating a wiping of the drive are working for me and I can't find a definitive answer to the question of even does the A85-S107 even have a partition from which the 0/S can be reloaded. Unfortunately, I forgot the original factory boot up discs for Windows XP overseas. The ideal would be some direction as to how to locate this program and uninstall it (it does not appear in Control Panel/Uninstall programs), but as my friend and I have been working for a month now trying to locate it, I'm comfortable now just wiping the hard drive to be done with it.

You might want to try restarting the computer and as soon as you see the Toshiba logo on the screen start pressing F1. if that doesn't work try again and this time press F8. look for an option that says something like restore this computer. im not sure this model has a recovery partition. if it doesn't you'll probably need to get your hands on a Windows XP disk. you could ask a friend with a dell computer they may have their disk. or you could try a flea market. but before you erase your computer you need to make sure you have your coa sticker on the compter still. it looks like the sample im providing. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

SOURCE: wiping the hard drive
i presume you have not formatted the drive yet. first make sure there is a restore partition on the drive.... after that go into the start menu and look for a menu item called restore or restore tools .... i'm not 100 % familiar with that computer but the basics of restoring the system are generic.

It appears the recovery partition has been removed from your hard disk. You need to obtain a Recovery CD from Toshiba.
If you have a Windows XP Home installation CD then you can use it to reinstall Windows on your Toshiba and the product installation code will be on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.
You can download thedevice drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from theirdownload page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get thecorrect drivers.
