Digital lights for clock and station are too dim to read

The backlighting for the clock and radio station numbers is too dim to read. I can see the time and and station numbers if I am in a completely dark room and if I hold the radio approximately 4" from my eyes.

SOURCE: Analog / Digital stations

Hello mikekahan,

OK you are not going to like this but here we go any way. First of all I need to explain how your channels are created.

When the RF signals come into the headend of the Down converters they are separated into pre channelized designations DC (Down Converter) 4 Stream 1 (DC 4-1, DC 4-2...) now once this is done the down converter signal is fed into a channel processor which takes the incoming signal from the Down Converter remodulates it and puts it on an assigned channel 4-1 could become channel 4, 4-2 could become channel 5 and so on. Once this is done you end up with your regular channel line up for analog channels, now for digital its a little different you have IRDs (Integrated Receiver Decoders) which take the off air or satellite Digital RF signals and convert them into MPEG Streams which is the fed into what is called a SEM (Motorola Architecture) Stream Encryption Module which assigns numeric designations to the MPEG streams and then converts the MPEG streams back into RF. Now at this point we have analog and digital signals what then has to happen is the the analog signals must be turned into MPEG streams to go through the system so what happens is from the channel processor the analog signal is put into a SE (Stream encryptor) Like the SE1010. This takes the analog stream and turns it into am MPEG stream and feeds it into the SEM also and the SEM assigns a numeric designation just like the digital signal and this can sometime follow the same numeric designations as was obtained from the Down Converter, So what you end up with is analog and digital signals having the 4-1, 4-2, 5-1, 5-2, ..... format. This is where other equipment comes into play These designations are then kept in a database and are matched to their proper channels by use of the DAC and RADD along with an IPG server. These allow the SEM to assign true channel designations to the converted channels, now the SEM DAC, and RADD talks to your STB, this is way the channels are correct because the SEM and the DAC/RADD are matching what is on the IPG (Interactive Program Guide). When you remove your cable box the tuner in your TV does not know how to deal with the DAC, RADD and IPG signals so it only displays the RF information which is the 4-1, 4-2, 5-1, 5-2 data.

I hope this helps,

My clock light is no shining, the rest of the panel is fine.

you have 2 choices
1; SEE FUSE LAbled, clock
2: if no such label buy and read the factory service manual?
3: or like we do , use a volt meter on all fuses, 1 by one keyon. 12v on both sides is good, (Brainless but 100% effective)! need a video?
have it. with ASE school.
my guess is the clock backlight is dead. right>? backlighting
aka. park/dim lights.l
this can be a bad lamp in the clock, the clock actual fuse is hot all the times.
the backlight lamp is from the dash park dimmer controller.
so if all others dim and 1 dont, that means the actual lamp is bad.
so now you ask one more question. how to change out a lamp.
that is covered in step 2 above, read the manual. or RTM,
I dont post full manuals, yet.
i cant past the whole cluster out , sections here, sorry

if in usa, (not one post ever tells country, and sux big time for helpers)
is alldata.com. USA cars. covers this. read the cluster service sections or where ever your clock resides, (not stated)
as you know, most cars have radio clock, and is a totally differ, answer. to that. (unstated by you) cars world wide have different options for clocks and radios and sometimes 5 or more radios. +++
posting a photo would solve that.?
here is the official toyota book, and again this is USA site!!!

my car has VFD display and if dead, $1000 for new one
so your cheap 10cent lamp is really a blessing, of old school tech.

How do i replace burned out lightbulb in my in my cambridge soundworks cd - 740 clock radio ?

I believe the problem is either a faulty light sensor the unit has to dim the display when the lights dim since it was designed for bedroom use with alrms and snooze button. or it is simply a failure in the circuit that drives the LCDs. Mine has been dim for a long time but I can still see just enough to adjust the sound settings. I tune and set stations by sound. so the display has not been an issue since we do not use it for a clock or alarm. I doubt there is a fix for the dim display.

Very dim light on my pro 2052.

Display or backlight? If it's the backlight, you need to replace one solder-in bulb. Radio Shack part number 272-114 (5v, 25mA) will work. If it's the dispay you need to contact the Shack for a replacement.

Clock radio display doesn't light up.

I just got a similar model at Big Lots a few months ago. A T439S. There some funky stuff they do with those displays it could be that the lamp is wearing out. 7 years is good life for them.

Funny, I've got one I've just stopped using because the backlight is too bright, even set at its lowest.

Maybe we could trade ;-)
