Should I change automatic transmission oil on my 2004 kia sedona?

forget the friends advice
automatic oil should be light tan or cherry red depending on the brand of oil used
the oil should be changed around the 60,000 klm mark and done by accredited transmission shops
If you have a CV-transmission that requires a special oil (not auto transmission oil as they are not automatic transmissions --they have a belt running between variable pulleys which gives the impression that it is automatic but it is not)

Have you tried replacing the transmission-filter and changing the transmission oil? A tip-before removing the transmission oil pan, place a strong magnet on the bottom.of the pan, run the engine a minute with the transmission in neutral. Now when you remove the pan and drain the oil, any metalic particles will come out with the oil. If there is alot of metal in the oil. You should aleays use this method to change filter and oil on your transmission.

Before you change the oil and filter however, look for any loose or bad electrical connections. Also check the linkages to the transmission. Make sure they are good.

As for those products like you mentioned, I would not recomend them....especially in the newer computerized transmissions.

What is the proper kind of transmission fluid for a transmission change?

Mitsubishi would love for you to use their oil, lololol. In reality, the proper oil is the oil rating needed. I usually use a good name brand oil and be sure it is that SPIII ATF I guess. I use Hypoid GL4 manual transmission oil which also can go into the rearend too if needed. If replacing the trany oil, be sure to dump the old oil and clean the magnet located on the drain bolt when you dump it. By the way, I use the oil I mentioned in an 86 Mitsubishi mighty max 5 speed. I use the 80-90wt. Might need to warm it up before pumping it into the tranny. Don't over or under fill the trany too.

Transmission oil change

I take it you are talking auto transmission. Un do the drain plug in the box sump or if you do not have one remove the sump. replace filter in the sump . replace the sump with a new gasket and refill the sump. IF there is nothing wrong with the transmission and you only want to change the oil the best practice is to take it to a auto transmission shop where they can change the oil with the engine running and this changes the oil in the torque converter as well giving you a complete oil change. IT is more expensive as more oil is used but it changes all the oil and not just a part of the system. If your are talking manual, then remove the drain plug in the bottom of the gear box and when all the oil is out replace the plug tightly and remove the filler plug in the side of the box. Add oil until it runs out of the filler hole and when it stops replace the filler plug tightly. Use the correct grade of oils in both cases.

I have hyundai sonnata 2006 4 cylinder. it has just completed 100000km.should i changet transmission oil now.

The transmission oil starts breaking down at 30000miles. Most car dealers change the transmission oil and filter at the second scheduled maintenance service at 60000miles. Changing the transmiosion oil is an insurance for the transmission. Make sure to use the specific transmission oil for your car.
