I have a 2005 renault grand scenic that recently went in the garage for work and has come out with the 'parking brake failure' message on the dashboard. The handbrake is electric and is working perfectly...

A renault tech told me how to reset the electronic parking brake on my grand scenic without going to dealer, this works if you have had to pull the yellow emergency handle in rear which i have had to do this week.

Turn your ignition on without starting engine, have drivers door open and press lock button on keycard
put keycard in reader and press start button for 5 seconds.
pull large part of manual handbrake handle and push small button with red light without letting go of larger handle and you should hear the handbrake motor reset!

That should be it!

Can I take a gearbox out of a Renault scenic leaving the engine in

Yes , by attaching an engine stand accross the both fenders allowing to suspend the engine and allowing the gearbox to tilt ,giving you access to opening the mountings and bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

Renault scenic wipers and park lights stay on

Try removing the plastic trim on the steering column, pull off the multi pin plugs on the stick switches and see if that stops them. May be the switch is the cause?

Got two new tyres on front of Renault Scenic since then the hand brake is sticking. Is it connected?

The handbrake is only connected to the rear wheels. You can check the adjustment of the drums in the back or have a mechanice look at it. Also depending on what year your car is you may want to have the dealer check and see if the fix can be covered by this recall campaign:

Cd player comes up with err message

Oh, i had this problem several times... look, the best answer that i can give you is to buy a new one, there's sony's cd-players that are great, me and my father have. now, if you want to stay with this cd player just insert the cd several times until it will play. but again, you better buy a different one.
