Dear captkmk,
I do not have the same monitor but with my Konka monitor I only get a couple of seconds to start changing the input options. I just have to open the INPUT menu on the monitor again & QUICKLY scroll down the options to the one I want. Otherwise try googling for the operation manual? I hope this helps - 'b'ye - Bruce.

No s-video input signal

Make sure you're on the correct input selection, press the source button a few times.

Make sure that the CABLE is not faulty, and connected properly at both ends.

Failing that, the monitor is probably not functioning correctly. That's a 7 year old monitor you have.

On dell 2405fpw, the screen just went black. Unable to select VGA input. Unable to perform self test.

You need to power cycle your LCD moniter, and then disconnect the display cable of your LCD from your system and see if yor LCD is doing the self test, if that is passing the self test that means there is nothing wrong with your LCD you need to check your system espeacially display adaptor and the drivers, you can also cross check if you have any other monuiter at home.

If your LCD moniter does not pass the self test then it means it has crashed you need to get it repaired or get the new one.

I have a dell 2405fpw that has developed a blue vertical translucent line that acts like a filter. It is as though the blue setting is too high in one line(about 2 inches wide)

Try reseating the ribbon cable between the T-CON board and the LCD panel first, this problem can be due to bad T-CON or LCD panel.
It is similar to 2408.

No input signal reading for monitor

First you need to check the vga cable. Secure its connection from the monitor and the video card input at the back of your cpu.

If that didn't fix the problem, you will need to open the casing cover of your cpu. unscrew the video card (agp or pci) disconnect it from the motherboard. Then reseat it properly again to the slot of the motherboard. Return the cover... check all connections and restart the system.

If that did not solve the problem the last option is to replace your video card.

Please comeback if you find this solution helpful and rate this answer. Thanks.

On the Dell 2405FPW, is the USB CABLE a special cable?

That isn't a USB cable. The cable you're talking about is an HDMI cable that is used for high quality graphics cards.
