Sounds like you have either a defective ink cartridge, or the sensor that recognizes the cartridge is either dirty, broken or out of alignment.
Microboards will help you out at no charge if your printer is still under warranty. Otherwise you can contact an authorized Microboards repair center like

For the PF-1 and PF-2, there is a chip that blows before the dropping mechanism (good news), and if you contact microboards technical support (952) 556-1639, they can help you out. This is a very common problem. They are awesome at diagnosing the issue, and will e-mail you directions as well as any parts you need.

We have the same problem with some brands of discs. Fan the discs before you load them and/or try another brand of DVD. We like Datasafe or Datawrite
