The lights on the optical mouse is on,,,, when the system if turned off.

It must still be receiving power then if it is a wireless mouse usually they have a power button to conserve power but if it is a wired mouse then you just have to unplug it.

I am getting a message that my Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000v2.0 is about to quit. Do I need new batteries and if so, what.

You need new AA standard type of battery. Use alkaline battery (longest life). Don't use cheap battery because solution from battery can go out and destroy your mouse. Battery life from that mouse can be around 6 month with good battery. This is very good duration for this type of mouse.

Sounds like a Ebay sold mouse with non matching receiver to mouse.
Best laptop wireless mouse to buy in my opinion is Logitech VX Nano from Staples or some store like it.Work wonderful and battery life excellent. Windows Xp,Vista,Windows7 install the driver auto for you. Don't need the cd at all

Wireless just stopped working. Changed batteries,

The behavior described indicates weak/dead batteries. Logitech brags about the battery life on this model, but in reality battery life varys dramatically between invidual units. I've seen one that would not operate at all on Ni-Cad rechargable batteries (only 1.2 volts even at full charge). If you must use rechargeables, stick with NiMH (metal hydride). Better yet, use long life lithium.

Also, make sure the "Nano" receiver isn't sitting in the storage bin. This is one of two ways to power off the mouse. The other is the 'Clip N Go' dock.

Microsoft wireless mouse/keyboard is not connecting

there is no such life span for a wireless device, atleast not very small, if handled carefully they will last you for a long time. there may be a problem with your button setting which can be corrected by going to 'control pannel'-> 'mice and pointer devices'->'buttons' tab.

Wireless mouse locks up

I would suggest investing in a USB mouse. They never have this problem and are very cheap to buy. I have found that wireless mice are prone to problems. I would say there is a problem in the connection between your mouse and the laptop but this sort of problem is quite hard to find. As I said, you are better off with USB mouse.
