My pictures are coming out too dark

There are four ways to make the image lighter
a) more light (flash, sun, etc)
b) slower shutter speed (allows more time for light to "expose" the sensor)
c) larger aperture (bigger hole = more light)
d) higher ISO (basically, amplify the available light more).

If you are using a point and shoot camera, the flash is usually only good for about 10 feet, so trying to get a good bright picture of subjects further away won't work.

Items b, c, and d are handled by the camera in automatic mode. In manual mode, set the iso has high as it can go. Set the aperture as large as it can go, and decrease the shutter speed.

Depending on the camera, you can enable the histogram to see if the images are too dark, usually by pressing the display button while taking pictures. If the histogram is off to the left edge, the picture will be too dark.

In post-processing, (e.g. photoshop), you can use Levels (control-shift-L for auto-levels) and it will move the histogram to the right, making the picture look brighter.

How do i swap from eye view to screen for picture taking where is the button located to swap from one view to the other i dont have the manual cannon eos rebel xt

There is no such button. The Rebel XT operates as SLRs have operated for half a century: you compose through the viewfinder, the mirror flips up when you press the shutter button, etc.

You can download a manual from http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=ModelFeaturesTabAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=11209#DownloadDetailAct

Blurred pictures

Batteries don't play a role in it. Maybe it has slow focus. Try to push the shooting button to only half of its full push, wait a while until it focuses an then shoot by full press on the shoot button. You can also check if you have not switched on macro settings (flower in frame). If you do, turn it off.

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.

Blue and red squares over my image

A histogram is a graphic representation of the distribution of brightness values in an image. The C-5500 has two histograms. One displays a real-time graph on the LCD screen as you compose your images and during the Quick View of images after they are shot. The DIRECT histogram displays potentially over and under-exposed areas in the image with a grid of squares—red for over-exposure and blue for under-exposure. You can set the histogram to OFF to prevent the histogram from appearing.
