First does your computer have a dvd drive
and are you trying to watch dvds or downloading movies?
if you have a dvd drive you should be able to watch the movies from the windows media player
you may need to upgrade the software but its really easy
go to http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/en/default.aspx
then type in what you are looking for on the seach line press enter and it should give you the software to watch dvds
if this doesnt work then your drive is not a dvddrive.
most computers that have dvd drives have the software to watch movies installed
another way to check that is to left click on the start logo on bottom left of your screen and click on search and type in media player or dvd player and it should find the software on your computer for you.
I hope yhis helps if you need more info im here to help

leave a fixya rating as thats based on how we are paid

Just turn down the volume for flash. XP does not have an individual application control for audio like Win 8 but you can turn it down within the video.

What fix to apply to HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B in Dell Dimension E310 so it can read/play a dvd movie?

Try the following:

1. Go to the Dell.com support site and be sure you have the latest updates for your computer's operating system and the DVD drive, especially the DVD drive's drivers BIOS.

2. Make sure you have the software to play the movie, like Sonic, Windows Media Player, Power DVD, Quicktime, etc. and be sure they are the latest versions.

3. Depending on the movie format, not all DVD drives will play all DVDs. The most common discs are DVD-R and DVD+R and file types like *.avi, *.mpeg, *.mp4, *.mov and then commercial formats. Also try the movie in another machine or DVD player and see what happens.

Dvds wont play on pc

You can install another DVD player software.
there are plenty of free players on the internet that you can download, or you can buy one at your local software dealer. Once you install this, the newer video codecs should be installed

DVD-ROM drive reads CDs, but not DVDs Dell x-200

It shouldn't be a driver issue. DVD drives are natively supported by XP. What software do you have installed for playing DVD'? Windows Media Player 11 would be excellent, and it's free from Microsoft. PowerDVD and WinDVD are also good, but you have to buy them.

No dvd installed

If it's a DVD movie that you cannot play then you need a special program like powerdvd to run it.
windows media player can also do it :http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-224-playing-dvds-in-windows-media-player

Cannot play dvds as drivers lost when changing from vista to xp home.when enter dvd it says dvd decoder and drives lost

If you are running XP, you will need to install a DVD playback application. IN VIsta, DVD playback is native to WIndows, in XP, Dell used a program called Cyberlink PowerDVD. You can either buy PowerDVD on line or download a free DVD playback application from places like Download.com. I've had good luck with the AVS DVD player here:

http://www.download.com/AVS-DVD-Player/3000-7970_4-10491860.html?cdlPid=10669161

If you just installed XP on this system, it is also important that all the drivers are installed and in the correct order. Dell's preferred order is:

Notebook System Software
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Sound Driver
Modem Driver
Network Driver
Wireless Driver
Touchpad Driver
Quickset Utility

Drivers are available here:

Sorry, another problem

You need the correct codecs to play DVD's. The codec needed can be different for different DVD's. Just install K-lite codec pack. That should work fine.
