Check cable that is not loose when you adjust power or check that there's nothing rapped around the blades could decrease the power it's supposed to give when blade is spinning

SOURCE: Problem mowing my lawn.

I had the same problem and I already found those recommended solutions\ causes on the web:
1. The motor isn't on full throttle.
2. The blade is upside down.
3. The grass is too high when cutting it.
4. Overlap your cuts.

It helped my problem/ I hope it will help yours too!

SOURCE: Poulan 550 mower idle problme

Check air filter, replace if needed.
Check engine oil level and condition. Add/change as needed.
Check spark plug. Clean and re-gap if needed (.030 gap)
Drain the fuel and replace with fresh premium grade gasoline. If your local station has a notice on the pump regarding Ethanol content, drive to another station!

Most owner's manuals specify 89 octane or higher and most warranties become void if E85 fuel is used.

And finally, Oxygenated fuels are not your mower's best friend. :-)

Hope this helps.

Your mower doesn't have enough power to handle very thick grass at high speed. You need to go slower across the lawn. That's easy to do if this is a push mower (just don't walk so fast) or if it's a self-propelled model with a speed control. But if it's a single-speed model you'll have to mow the lawn in fits and starts: squeeze the lever to move it forward; release it when you hear it bogging down; wait for the motor to reach full speed; squeeze the lever to move it forward again; repeat. Also, is the grass very high? If so, try setting the cutting height higher on the first pass, then lower it for a second pass. Finally, make sure the blade is sharp.

hi there

danielburgi

1 almost sounds like you may have a restriction in the main jet of the carburettor or idle circuit transtional holes or idle air bleed holes , also check emulsion tube

2 then if these are all ok try adjusting governor - as soon as load exceeds power output - unit will try and stall- once governor adjusted re-try -

3 the only other thing it may be is too low compression which ia major concern

try 1 and 2 options 1st

3 is the last option which means a leak test to check compression loss or worn rings

cheers pauly46

hope it helps

Was mowing the lawn the other day, when over some thicker grass and it shut off. When I pull the starter cord it gets stuck; the flywheel won't turn. I checked the ratchet pawls and they seem to be fine....

Unless some tough grass blades got wrapped around the blade spindle (which would stop the blade from turning anyway) the motor probably just stalled because it wasn't powerful enough to shred up the thicker grass so that, in itself, may not be directly related to the problem you are experiencing. These mowers are relatively simple creatures so there are not many things to go wrong. If you lay the mower on its side and rotate the blade by hand you should be able to see the flywheel turning through the air intakes on top of the mower. If the blade is turning but the flywheel isn't it would seem to indicate that something has sheared off in between the two and/or the engine has seized up. As you turn the blade can you hear the piston sucking and blowing? If you can then the engine has not seized and the problem lies in the flywheel assembly.

Lawn mower stalled while cutting grass and cord

Check under the mower to see if anything is lodged in the blade, preventing it from turning. It that is clear, then the motor may have siezed up. possibly due to lack of engine oil
