The best advise I can give and the worst mistake you can make while trying to install a new head unit into a car is DO NOT CUT THE STOCK HARNESS.
New head units come with bare harness with just wire ends, so you may think you need to cut off the harness on the car to wire it in.
This is the worst thing you can do. As a matter of fact, it is a bad Idea to cut any harness for anything in your car as they make wiring harness adapters to fit every thing in your car.
Before you install your head unit, go to Best Buy, or any car audio place, or on the internet and get a harness to suit the install. For instance if you have a pioneer head unit, and a 2007 Honda, you want a pioneer to 07 Honda wiring harness. This will allow your head unit to connect right into the stock wiring harness.
Those screws have to come out no matter what! Try using needle nosed vice grips to get a grip on the outer edge of each screw. If they slide off, you may have to file flat spots on the sides of the screws. Another way is to cut grooves in the heads of the screws with a Dremel motor tool and grinding disk. Another way is touse the Dremel to grind the heads completely off and slide the bowl over the remaining stems.. No matter what you do, use NEW screws in reassembly. Make sure the screws are metric! Good Luck!
If you mean that a black box appears on the screen, and you can still see the picture around the box, it means that your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. If this is the case, enter the menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF. If you mean that the top of the picture has collapsed down, the vertical circuit has stopped working correctly and the set should be serviced by a qualified tech.
you have to get into the tv to do the adjustment. take the cover off and then look for the CRT tube and follow the yoke cables that will lead you to the printed circuit. you should see some small tiny knobs there. something like vertical phase or horizantl Phase..you need the verital to adjust the vertical size of the pic..good luck
