SOURCE: GE GSH22SGRE - water dispenser not working but ice cube maker working fine

I fixed mine by leaving the light on the dispenser on. It took about 6 hrs, but the little heat from the light bulb was enough to defrost the water line.

Had the same problem. The water line from the valve to the ice maker was cracked due to heat from the compressor.

SOURCE: Water dispenser not working. Ice dispenser works

There should be a water filter inside the water lines to the water spout. This filter could be clogged, or the water lines themselves may still be somewhat frozen and not allowing flow to the dispenser itself.
You can also test the power to the dispensor to make sure it is drawing water. Can you hear the pump trying to pump water to dispenser? The water valve should also be opening. You can test power to the valve that draws in water from the external water lines.

Will not dispence water

My water dispensor INSIDE the door froze up.
I payed a repair guy $75 to use MY BLOWDRYER to "thaw" the frozen water line INSIDE the freezer door (below the water dispenser).

He said anytime the frozen food extends over the freezer shelf and touches the freezer door for a long enough period of time, the water line inside the door FREEZES!!

PREVENTION: "Keep some airspace between the door and frozen food."

Freezer thaws and then Refreezes

Theory of operation: Cold air is produced in the freezer section and is then circulated via a fan located in the freezer section. It sounds like you may have either an air leak from faulty door seals, ice dispenser door flap stuck in the open position, or the light staying on the door is closed.
A faulty compressor fan may also cause symptoms like that but you should hear the thermal cut out clicking off and on due overheating of the compressor.

The water dispenser and ice cube maker stopped working

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws. Covering the opening with a blanket will prevent the loss of cold in the freezer. . GE makes a heater that will prevent this from happening again. The part number for this heater is WR49X10173.

disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

My Whirlpool side by side keeps freezing on the regular side.

your damper door is most likely frozen in the fully open position, thaw it out if iced up,then adjust cold control to see if it closes, the door is inside between the refrige and freezer compartments, also if this happens again check the door seals to make sure they are sealing good and not letting in warm air that can condense and refreeze this door

Internal water dispenser stopped working

I lowered the temp on the freezer to 4 overnight, by morning water dispenser is working fine. I think that when we changed the temp to 7 (in order to make more ice ) it froze the water pipe going to the dispenser. I am going to keep both fridge and freezer at 5 ,and hope this will not happen again.

GE side by side with ice and water in door

This is a problem with my GE side by side also. It only happens occassionally and there doesn't seem to be any fix. I've had GE repair service here more than once. It seems that the insulation in the door is insufficient to keep the water line from freezing up. Small wonder GE is part of this awful financial mess.

Ice maker frezing at storage tray and door will not let ice in shoot

This is generally caused by one or two things (sometimes a combination of both).
1.) If it is a "frost Free" freezer the mechanism that partially thaws the freezer has stopped being regulated and will require professional repair.
2.) The door gasket may be bad, causing a small amount of warm air to reach the ice and then it is refreezing in a blob.

another cause is: if you constantly open the freezer door or hold it open for long periods of time while searching for items etc. the ice lightly skims with moisture then refreezes into a blob.

The water line freezes inside the freezer door. There is now an add-on water line heater you can install to thaw the line.
