CB Plays out PA Speaker

Are you following the user manual that came with the radio?
NB-ANL/CB/PA SWITCH: When the switch is in the NB/ANL position, the Noise Blanker (NB) and Automatic Noise Limiter (ANL) circuits are activated.
The Noise Blanker is very effective in eliminating repetitive impulse noise such as ignition interference. In the CB position, the PA function is disabled and the radio will transmit and receive on the speaker that is connected. In the PA position,
the radio acts as public address amplifier. Your voice will come out of the speaker that is plugged into the PA. SP. jack on the rear panel. The radio does not operate when you are in the PA mode.

When you plug a speaker into the ext. jack does it kill the radios internal speaker? It should until you unplug it; if not and you are following the about you may have a wiring issue with the jacks.

R58 and driver smoked.

Could be that the PA is also shot. ALSO, check your antenna switching diodes, they quite often open and/or short which can cause lots of problems. Check your current drain in transmit. It should be 2 to 3 amps in transmit, and about 1/2 an amp in receive.
Check the collector voltage on the PA transistor. It should be 13.6V in transmit. Also, in some radios, there is a diode between the DC input and the final transistor. I have had to replace this in a few 29LX's.

No sound from either channel

Since it is a PA amp

• Check first if input signals are getting through the amp.

• Check if all the outputs are properly connected.

If you have already done, checking..

• Check for shorted power transistors, and extract in pairs.

If it powers up, without protect..

• Check again for possible additional components before replacing

the bad ones.

A good amp never produce an over of 0.7V on its output.

My sc40r amp started humming really loud after i had turned it on... it played perfect the night before... but when i went to go play it this morning it started humming really loud then stopped and began...

You take it in for electronic repair. Unless you are electronically adept at troubleshooting and repair this is not DIY. Probably one side of the PA transistors has shorted. You can blow the speaker if you keep trying to use it this way.

FM 65R plays and sounds great for about 5- 10 minutes then it sounds weak and distorted. If I play directly into the power amp input it sounds great again just no control for the volume and tone.

Also the volume will probably be lower going into the line level PA input... If the amp is shutting down for thermal reasons, driving it less might not get to the point of shutdown. The schematic shows a temp sensor that reduces and shuts down the amp if the heatsinks get to hot. Possibly you are driving the amp harder than it is intended, If it is as loud (I doubt it) driving the PA input, then I would expect it to shutdown, but you would probably have to drive it harder than your guitar because guitar levels are well below line level. The amp claims 65 watts... don't believe everything you read in spec sheets... You should be able to generate 100 Db of sound with it... The more distortion you use will drive the amp harder and heat the heatsinks faster.

I would like to know how to properly connect my roland kc350 to my yamaha p90 for execellent stereo sound. seems like the sound is not quite perfect when i plug into left/right inputs on amp from...

Correct connections to connect your keyboard to your roland amp, and then the amp to the PA would be:

Two mono 1/4" jack (regular guitar leads) leads to connect the sockets labeld L and R on your P90 into channel 2 L and R on your amp. (channel 2 is better as you cannot overload it like you could on channel one, which has enough gain for microphone)

Then, using either the jack or XLR (XLR would be better if your PA mixer can accept them) sockets on your amp labeled LINE OUT, hook up your roland amp to your PA. Make sure to use the correct line outs on the top panel, NOT the stereo link or Sub outs on the back.
