Question about RCA HD50LPW175 50" HDTV
I've got a 1 year old HD50LPW175 that recently started to not come on. I got the 5 blinks, so I replaced the lamp with one from Discount Merchant. Same problem, still won't start- blinks lights 5 times.
I took the back off, stuck something in the switch to keep it closed, and from the back tried again. The cooling fan cycles on for one second, the main lamp doesn't come on. It doesn't sound like the color wheel is running either, but I can't be sure if it should.
I bought a new lamp balleast on e-bay, but haven't gotten it yet, so I don't know if that will fix it. I did ohm out the old ballast with my meter, but there weren't any shorted transistors, diode, or FET's, and no burning smell.
I'll post again when I get the new ballast to let you guys know if that fixed it, but I don't think it will.
Does anyone know what the start-up sequence is?
Does anyone have any schematics?
Does anyone have another idea?
The solution is if it gets repaired 3 times, and lamp assembly replacements dont count, i repeat 3 times, best buy will replace it, as they are going to have 2 mine. these rca sceniums are a black hole for money. i have had capacitors replaced, speakers, the lamp twice, what i call the motherboard( the place where you plug in other devices to the tv. and now i still have problem of tv, at times pixelating(this could be caused by cable signal however), and i get a blank screen when i try to turn on. sometimes i have to attempt this 3 times prior to the tv starting. i have a service tech coming wednesday. good thing i bought the 4 yr warranty as all this in on best buy, and now they will have to provide a new television under their lemon laws. service tech just coming to confirm need to repair. THE REVIEWS for this rca are horrendous, like 1 star out of 5. final note : i bought this in june of 2006. solution is if you do not have warranty - QUIT PUTTING MONEY INTO A BLACK HOLE. i bought a 42 in samsung at the same time i did this one and it has never had a problem. so now i will replace this with a samsung dlp, plasma, or lcd - what ever options best buy gives me.

For solution #2, guest, you are a tool. If you have a problem like this on a similar tv, you would know that it is nothing but a money pit. We dropped anywhere from $1500 to $3000 on a tv to begin with that only lasts a year, if that. Then it's a series of random problems that are practically impossible to diagnose and or fix without dumping at least another grand into it. We're not cheap, we're just tapped the F**K out, and pissed! If you don't have somehting constructive to add to this board, take a long walk off a short pier.

You should all stop being cheap and bring the tv to be serviced by a professional.then u dont risk killing yourself, going blind or mseeing up your tv worse than it already is!!!

On a very similar model I found there is a ballast board that powers the lamp. The board is likely bad. On my model RCA it is a small board located beneath the fan. Tracing the lamp power cables back would likely allow you to find the board.

This is normal . It is telling me it is trying to turn on the lamp. But are you having a problem with the set now or is this something you've just noticed. If your set is not working check the the lamp or make sure it is seated correctly.

I need to know which type lamp assembly you use there are two types type A and Type B. Let me know and I will post a link where you can get a new ballast circuit.
