wicks work by being saturated in kero and then burning off the kero and not the wick
what you have is a carbon block on the end of the wick that is preventing the kero ignition
It will burn but it is way too expensive. Clear K1 Kero from a "locked" pump is what I would recommend, performance vs price. 2nd is the 5 gallon cans of K1 Kero in Big Box stores. 3rd. is Kleen Heat, Kerosene alternative.
since the combustion temp of diesel is different from KERO, expect the heater to shut down from overheating at times.

well, somebody once told me that if you add a quart of oil to 5 gal of kero, it makes a good diesel substitute. So, in theory, I would add a little ethinal (corn gas) to the kero.
