Question about DeLonghi Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines
Delonghi ESAM5450 goes through start up self check then goes to 'heating up' then defaults to general alarm cycle and never makes it to the rinse cycle... so no functions become active.. and no coffee. Has anyone had a similar problem. Machine has been cleaned fully.

There are two reasons for this usually. Either the grinder is jammed or the grinding wheel or wheels have broken. Your machine needs to go to a repair shop to be looked at.

Hi. Husband asks: When you first turn the machine on at the power point, does it make a motor sound and then stop, or is the awful noise apparent at that time.
If the awful noise starts as soon as you turn it on, then most likely there is a motor problem which will need to be seen by a Service Center.

From page 21 of the owner's manual: Message: general alarm. Meaning: The inside of the appliance is very dirty. What to do: Clean the inside of the appliance thoroughly, as described in section 15. If the message is still displayed after cleaning, contact a service center.
Hope that all your machine needs is a thorough cleaning; it's not that difficult.
