It sounds like the thermostat, but check to make sure that there is nothing blocking air flow through the heater. If it was damaged, there could be loose parts inside blocking air flow.

What would cause the return manifold get so hot it would melt? Water was running thru the manifold and was returning to the pool.

It sounds like the internal by-pass is stuck open, and is not forcing enough water through the heat exchange. The Hi-Limit switches should have shut off the heater before damage occurred, so you have more than one problem with this heater.

Great device easy to use OK but the electric cord is always very warm when on. Also very high electric consummation. Not sure if it is just my device? I purchased it in Walmart in Grants Pass, OR last...

As far as the cord being warm that is pretty normal as is the power consumption depending on the temp. setting. However I think that much of a increase is excessive so I think if it was me I would return it to walmart and try to get a replacement. It has been my experience with walmart that they generally are quite good at in store replacement within 90 days. That way you could have a basis for comparison. Thank you.

I have a Laser30 that catches on fire(overheating?) when it stays on high cycle for too long. What could cause that?

If you mean the stove overheats and gives you an EE12 message we can help? If the stove catches on fire you have many other issues. An EE12 message is fixed by cleaning the circulating fan screen on the back of the heater. While back there you should clean the fan blades as well.

Laser 56 EE6

EE 6 happens for several reasons. Most likely in your case when the stove runs for a while after you turn it back on, the code is due to and over heat. The circulating fan and cover need to be spotless. If they are then the code is due to low fuel, no fuel or dirty filte on tankor stove.

Laser 30

EE 8 means there is a problem with the blower fan. It could be faulty or it could just be stuck. Did you leave the heater off for a long time? Like all summer? If so then it is probably just stuck. You can easily check if it is just stuck by following these steps: turn the heater off. grab a flashlight and a screwdriver and kneel down next to the left side of the heater as you are facing it. Look behind the heater near the bottom and you will see a flexible gray rubber L-shaped hose that is attached to the blower fan housing. This is the fresh air inlet for the heater. Next, loosen the hose clamp screw on the gray rubber hose elbow that attaches to the back of the heater. You may need a stubby screwdriver depending on which way the clamp is facing. Pull off the rubber elbow and stick your finger into the hole in the blower housing. You should feel the fins and hub of the round fan. This should turn freely. If it doesn't, then you can try to spin it with your finger a few times as you turn the heater back on. Do this carefully, you don't want to bend or warp the fan. If it begins to spin freely, you should hear it and there will be some slight suction INTO the housing. It may work normally now, although it will likely make more noise than it used to, due to the motor bearings being inactive for a while. Replace the rubber hose and clamp, and run the heater on high for a while by adjusting the SET temp up. It is important with the Laser 30 to run it frequently, even at a low setting in summer to keep this from happening. If you turn it off and let it sit for even a few days or weeks at a time, this will probably happen again.
