Yes, it could be the thermostat. Here are all of the reasons that could be causing your problem Read through them as a guide on how to proceed. Get back if I can help you further.

This is a common problem that often doesn't have a clear, permanent solution. The first thing to check is the overall internal refrigerator temperature (see the Appliance Accessories section for a refrigerator/freezer thermometer). The proper temperature should be between 35 and 42 degrees. Here are some things to try:

  • If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 35 degrees, try turning the temperature up slightly.

  • If you find that the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom (where it is coldest), try putting produce and other sensitive products on a higher shelf.

  • If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the sealed (refrigerant) system, cold air migration (in side-by-side models) or a defective air damper. These problems can be quite difficult to locate and correct, we recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Delfield freezers have defrost in the control. It is a thermostat, defrost control, and other things all rolled into one device. Sanyo Mini Fridge Freezes Everything

Hello,
For me I think you have a problem in Thermostat switch contact. Or the rotary switch was not in good contact point, better check it and if still the same, proceed to check your thermocouple if functioning.

The freeze control on my PF1222TB is not working. Whenb the temp drops below the temp set on the contol, it does not start the pump

Freeze control is a thermostatically controlled switch.
There are 4 basic components:
-Wire connections that can come loose. Check that wire terminals are tight.
-Thermostat setting that can be set lower. Move dial and see if that has effect.
-Thermostat that can go bad.
-Internal switch that can stop working.

Replacement freeze control can be purchased separately:

Intermatic PF 1102 digital timer with freeze control; Timer will switch from off to on to auto, but when switching to "on' the pump will not turn on. There is a "click" that indicates to...

The freeze control is wired parallel with timer, so both controls can turn Load ON-OFF.
So Load turns ON when either the freeze-control or the timer turns ON.
When both are ON, then Load will be ON.
Freeze control can be ON and timer OFF and Load is ON
Freeze control can be OFF and timer ON and Load is ON.
Only when both Freeze control and timer are OFF, will Load be OFF.

If pump is not turning ON below 32 (or the protection set point), then freeze control thermostat is suspect.
But you need to check if pump turns ON when timer turns ON.
If pump operates with timer, then freeze control is main suspect, unless there is a loose wire.
Open box and check for loose and burned connections.
If pump does not operate with either timer or freeze control, then check for loose wires and also check your circuit breaker and check that pump is operable.

Refrigerator side over cools get down freezing no mater what we set the temp at.What could it be ?

It would have to be the thermostat in this case, I have seen appliance timers set to intervals to control box temps until a replacement control is obtained, try tuning 1 hour and of an hour during day to stasrt off, adjustments according to result may be required, at night leave it off during the hours it wont be opened generally. good luck.

Intermittent failure of thermostat is the most likely problem.

Check the temp sensor to make sure it is clean.

You can check for voltage coming out of the thermostat when the unit is working improperly.

If the setting is on.... say, 36, the temp is... say, 26, and there is still voltage coming from the T-stat telling the compressor and fan motors to operate, then you have a bad T-stat/sensor.

Most T-stats for that type unit do not have a separate removable sensor, its all one part with a sensor on a long tube/wire.

You can probably buy one from your local refrigeration supply warehouse for less than 35 bucks.

If it were a more consistent problem, I would say you have clogged coils or low refrigerant. But if most times it works fine, and then just randomly will not shut off, that's likely a controls thing. = T-stat.

Frigidaire side by side - fridge side temp too low

It sounds as though your thermostat is not cycling your compressor off causing it to run until the point of freezing. If you sit and listen, you will hear it hum. If it never stops humming, 9 times out of 10, the power outage shorted your thermostat.

Freezer not defrosting between cycles

Check the defrost timer for operation if your unit has one. Some Delfield models have solid state controls. If your system has a timer for the defrost you can open the timer cover and turn the dial in the direction indicated by the arrow until a time peg comes up to the time of day marker. You will hear a loud click and the compressor will shut off. Defrost should take place. The inner dial of the timer will have some indication as to how long in minutes the defrost should take. If the pointer does not move while in the defrost position the timer motor is bad. Turn the dial again so the copper pointer goes past the time of day marker and the compressor should restart. Replace the timer.
