I was sewing with my CG590 singer machine and then my needle broke. So I put in a new needle, and now it seems like it is hitting something when it goes down. What could this be and how do I fix it?

If the needle hit something (which is usually what happens when the needle breaks), it could very well have knocked the machine out of time. You can try installing another needle (make sure it is installed facing the correct direction) and see if that changes things. If it continues to hit something, you can search the internet for web sites and videos discussing "sewing machine timing" or take it for service.

Get the upper thread to pick up the bobbin thread?

A few more details could be help; I'm not sure if you'e unfamiliar with the process, or you do know how to do it, but the top thread won't catch. If you're unfamiliar with the process, you can download the user's manual free from the Singer sewing machine site--it's on page 26.

If you know the process, but can't catch the bobbin thread, there are several possibilities.. The first and most likely is your needle is not all the way up in the clamp, the flat part is not at the back, or the needle is bent. Loosen the clamp and use a needle nose pliers to grab it and make sure it's up as far as it can go, and the flat side is to the back of the machine.

The next possibility is the bobbin is either incorrectly inserted, or the end of the thread was not correctly inserted in the notch. Again, refer to your user's manual.

The last possibility is your timing has gone off. That will have to be corrected by a technician. It is rare that the timing goes off, though, and is usually the result of turning the hand wheel away from you too many times. Always turn it toward you.

When needle goes down to the bobbin area it ONLY HITS timing HOOK

Your machine is out of time. Get it serviced so it works properly. It should not hit the hook but should barely miss it.

Can't move stitch selector dial on singer cg590 c sewing machine

The machine has a 'hold' in the blank (or red) posiiton. You have to push the selector dial in a little bit then turn it. If it is in the red position it will only turn clockwise.

How do i fix the timing on my sewing machine

To do it properly you'll need the service manual. You can buy one (it's dowloadable!) here:

I was having the same problem and this worked out beautifully. I also adjusted the needle drive shaft height before I reset the timing. While you're at it, check the hook timing belt tension.
