The number keys to the right will not work, even after pressing number lock. suggestions?

Please open Device Manager and uninstall what is showing under "Keyboards". If you're unsure on how to perform these steps, follow this link:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03540049&lc=en&product=5450010&tmp...
Once you have uninstalled the keyboard driver, restart your notebook and it should automatically reinstall for you.
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

  • If the keyboard is not working in Windows, continue with these steps to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard software in Device Manager.
  • Click Start , then click Control Panel.
    Control Panel opens.
  • Click Hardware and Sound.
  • Click Device Manager under Devices and Printers.

    Device Manager opens.
  • Click View, and select Show Hidden Devices.
  • Double-click Keyboards, right-click the keyboard name, and then click the Uninstall button to remove the device from Windows.
  • Restart the computer.
  • The keyboard should now work correctly.
  • Your computer comes with several software programs that can test the keyboard for key or hardware failures. For more information, see the HP Support document Testing for Hardware Failures.
  • Notebook key presses are slow to respond
If there is a short delay from the time a key is pressed to the time the character displays on the screen, the Filter Keys function might be activated. The Filter Keys function provides a greater range of key press options to fine-tune key delays and prevent inadvertent key presses. To disable Filter Keys and return to the default keyboard behavior, use the following steps:
    1. Click Start , and type keyboard in the Search box. Then select Change how your keyboard works under Control Panel.
    2. Remove the selection from Turn on Filter Keys. Then click Set up Filter Keys.
    3. Remove the check next to Turn on Filter Keys when SHIFT is pressed for eight seconds.
    4. Click Apply, click OK, and then close the Ease of Access Center.
The keys should be more responsive.
Pressing a notebook key once types several characters
If two or more characters appear when pressing a key, use the following steps to adjust the key repeat delay:
    1. Click Start , and type keyboard in the Search box. Then click Keyboard under Control Panel.
      The Keyboard Properties page opens.
    2. Set the Repeat delay slider to Long. Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Notebook beeps while typing
If the computer sometimes beeps while you are typing, Toggle Keys or Sticky Keys is active. Toggle Keys causes the computer to emit a beep when the Lock keys are pressed. Sticky Keys causes the computer to emit a beep when the Ctrl, Alt, Shift, or Lock key is pressed. Use the following steps to disable Sticky Keys and Toggle Keys:
    1. Click Start , and type keyboard in the Search box. Then click Change how your keyboard works under Control Panel.
    2. If selected, remove the check next to Turn on Sticky Keys. Then click Set up Sticky keys.
    3. Remove the check next to Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times.
    4. Click Apply, and then click OK to return to the Make the keyboard easier to use page.
    5. Remove the check next to Turn on Toggle Keys.
If selected, remove the selection from Turn on Toggle Keys by holding down the NUM LOCK key for five seconds.
    6. Click Apply, click OK, and then close the Ease of Access Center.
      The beeps no longer sound.
Wrong characters appear when typing, changing keyboard language, or Dvorak
If the wrong characters appear when you are typing, or you are trying to use a different keyboard, use the following steps to synchronize Windows to the type of keyboard you are using:
    1. Click Start , and type region into the Search field. Click Region and Language from the search results.
    2. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab, and then click Change Keyboards.

The Text Services and Input Languages page opens.
    3. Click Add.
    4. Select the keyboard you want to use, and click OK.
    5. From the Text Services and Input Languages page, select the new keyboard in the list and click Move up until it is first in the list. This makes it the default keyboard.
    6. Click OK. You can now use the new keyboard.
If you find that the new keyboard service works correctly and you do not want to use the other keyboard, repeat these steps and Remove the keyboard service that you do not need.

Keyboard keys wont type. used on screen keyboard to type this. any suggestions?

You might have "sticky keys" so try this:
When sticky keys are enabled, users can access functions that require pressing multiple modifier keys such as "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Shift" at once by pressing one button at a time. If sticky keys are enabled, it is possible to accidentally turn them on at an unwanted time. After turning off the sticky keys, disable the feature to prevent them from accidentally turning on again.

      • Press the "Shift" button five times in a row to turn off sticky keys.

      • Open the "Start" menu and then click "Control Panel."

      • Click "Ease of Access Center" from within the Control Panel window.

      • Click "Make The Keyboard Easier To Use" from within the Ease of Access Center window.

      • Remove the check-mark beside "Turn On Sticky Keys" to prevent sticky keys from being accidentally turned on.

      • Click "Apply" to save your changes and then click "OK" to close the window.
    Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Turning off my green keys on HP pavilion desktop keyboard?

    Hi,

How to turn off Sticky Keys: disable the Ease of Access feature
Tip: use the Windows Ease of Access Center

How to turn off Sticky Keys: what are Sticky Keys and why turn them off?
Sticky Keys is a Windows Ease of Access feature that makes it possible to use keyboard shortcuts or type capital letters without needing to press more than one key at once. Normally, you'd hold down the Shift key while pressing a letter to type a capital, or hold down the Ctrl key while pressing 'S' to save a document. It's even trickier if you want to use a shortcut such as Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Shift-Esc.

With Sticky Keys, you can press Ctrl, Shift or Alt, let go and then press another key - Windows will interpret this as pressing two keys together. You should also hear a beep if you have speakers connected.

That's great if you're disabled and can't press two keys at once, but what if you want to disable Sticky Keys?

How to turn off Sticky Keys in Windows 8
You can't press Shift another five times. Instead, you need to bring up the Start menu (or Start screen in Windows 8) by pressing the Windows key. Now type "ease of access" and click on Ease of Access in the list of results.

If you're using Windows 8, you need to click on the Ease of Access Keyboard settings result, and then it's a simple case of sliding the Sticky Keys toggle to 'off'.

If this does not help you. Let us know the below details to understand the issue bettery.

What do you mean by hot keys? ex.......

My laptop is entering more than one character at a time when typing in my password for example its adding additional letters how can i turn this off

seems like something is ring with the keyboard, try an external keyboard, if the issue is still the same this will be a windows issue, once in windows tap on the shift key 5 times this will either deactivate sticky keys or ask you to activate sticky keys.
If it is not a sticky key setting issue then the problem most likely will be Hardware, did any liquid spill on your keyboard previously causing the key to malfunction causing the key to type extra characters?
If none then possible this is a faulty keyboard on the machine.

Seems the on board keyboard had problems ( sticky ) Have you try using Usb keyboard? I guess the 'Sticky key' is Ctrl or Alt key. you can try pressing Shift key 5 times repetedly ( to disable sticky key )
Try remap keyboard > ( to disable sticky key with application )

Can't type anything without weird things happening the \'p\' prints,

hi, check that Sticky-keys arent turned on.

to toggle Sticky-keys on and off, press the shift key 5 times fast, then either Disable the sticky-keys tickbox, or click Settings for more configuration settings.

when sticky-keys are enabled, you can press shift and release, and the shift key is still enabled. this also goes for Alt, and CTRL.

so if it is enabled, pressing P will attempt to be Ctrl-P - which is print.

Two of the keys r and u will not work. Looks like

quick question, if your keyboard is mounted into a laptop it is very difficult to repair and i would recommend calling warranty support. if its a regular keyboard (not a laptop one) it should be pretty cheap to replace.

if you want to try cleaning a regular usb keyboard (note: this may make the situation worse), disconnect the keyboard and very carefully remove the keys with some leverage from a screw driver and wipe the area down with a slightly damp cloth and wash the removed keys under hot running water. press them back on and give it a try, either its broken and you need to replace the keyboard or its fixed.

Not all keys on keyboard work properly

Not likely, if the regular alphabet and numbers don't work then there is something sticky spilled under the keys.
you can remove the back and the membrane and wipe it clean. takes a bit of work.
