If you are trying to scan/copy a receipt of something else that is smaller, try to tape it to a regular sheet of paper before you copy it.
then the unit can detect the paper size.

When I scan a document using the feeder on top, the resulting scanned document has two parallel black lines down the left side of the page. What causes it and what fixes it?

When using the ADF if the glass has dirt on it, as the paper moves over the glass the image is written to the moving paper. The paper is also moving over the dirt specs on the glass causing verticle black lines. It is hard to explain without actually showing you. To fix the problem, lift up the top to expose the glass. Look to the left of the big rectangle glass. There will be a 3/4 inch glass strip. CLEAN IT.

SCX 4826FN everything that goe in through the top feeder (scans, copies, faxes) comes out with a solid vertical black line on the paper. All other printing jobs that pull paper from the tray are ok. It...

This black line sounds like it is definately coming from the ADF scanner glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that is located just to the left of the large original glass. You can verify this by making a copy from the large glass instead of using the feeder on top. If the copy comes out clean then it is definately the scanner glass. Just clean the glass well with glass cleaner and a soft cloth. This glass is only used when copying/scanning using the top automatic feeder
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Problem in ADf while putting a originals on ADF screen shows remove the original from the platen glass , when there is no paper on the glass

There is usualla small sensing switch located at the back of the ADF that detects when you have lifted the cover to remove the paper.
This switch may be malfunctioning.

Can't get the copier to scan only 8.5*11 area on glass

Set your original settings to the actual size.
You are using the auto recognition feature which is over-ridden when you specify the size manually.
It will try to match it to the nearest size it "knows". That is why the stamp is detecting so large.

Which feeder? Is it in the document feeder or the paper tray?

Could need a pm to replace the drum, cleaning blade, and possibly developer to get rid of the dirty copy and/or the scanner section should be cleaned as well by cleaning the glass as well as the mirrors underneath the glass.

Adf issues

one usefull thing to try - Place a blank piece of paper on the glass. Next, put your hand on top of the piece of paper and slide the paper back and forth across the glass. If you feel the paper sticking, you need to clean the glass with a glass cleaner, then polish the glass with a glass polisher(consult the manual first on this). You also need to clean the plastic between the glass and where the paper enters the glass. if it still doesnt work try to reset the machine, sometimes it takes some rest to reset such problems.
