Question about Brother ML-300 Typewriter

I installed the correction tape and it does not correct

I installed a new correction tape properly like I have on other occasions but when I type a few letters and hit correct the typewriter does not make the corrections. I noticed previously that the part holding the ribbon and correction tape would lift when I would hit correct. It no longer does that.

Sounds like you have diagnosed the problem. Remove the correct tape and make sure that it's not the "sticky" type. (it will be hard to unwind if it is). Next try to manually lift the part that's supposed to move to see if it does. If it's sluggish (hard to move) put rags around it to prevent over spray and carefully clean all the moving parts with WD40. Make very sure that the WD40 does not get on any electronic parts! It will also mess up the platen. So, the more rags around the moving parts, the better. I used to work on IBM typewriters, and WD40 sometimes works wonders.

SOURCE: Correction function not working

I've found that if I don't use the machine for a few weeks the correction tape that is exposed to the air becomes ineffective. I make a bunch of corrections in a row until fresh tape comes off the roll and the correcting function starts to work again.

We understand that your problem is: Dell Latitude D420 - additional memory installed 2GB but the sytem only sees 467Mb of memory, keep getting BSOD on Boot every time. Have re-installed mem chip on...

1) Make sure you have the right memory module type. IE ddr2 ect. check your model with a memory website that checks which modules should be in your particular notebook. Its a tedious task but important.

2) Make sure your type of notebook can handle the amount of memory you have in the laptop. Some types only allow a maximum memory limit.

3)Make sure chip is installed correctly that both sides are clicked in properly.

I installed new correction tape, but there's too much play in it. It keeps unravelling. I have no idea how to tighten it up. When I turn the take-up spool, it just unravels it more without tightening...

Verify that you have installed the proper correction tape. The types of tape that can be used with this system are: Item 1030 - Correctable Film Ribbon, 1230 - Correctable Film Ribbon 2pack, 1031 - Multi Strike Ribbon, 1032 - Nylon Ribbon, 3010 - Lift-off correction tapes (to be used with 1030 and 1230 ribbons), 4010 Cover-up Correction tape (to be used with 1031 and 1032 ribbons).
Make sure that the correction tape is installed properly. Pass the tape through the left guide, behind the ribbon guide and out through the right guide. The rough side of the tape should face the platen. Attach the feeder spool to the pin on the left. Attach the take up spool to the pin on the right. Turn the take up spool counter clockwise until a small amount of tape has wound around it. Replace the cassette ribbon and close the case cover. Press [CODE] + [RESET] to move the carrier to the previous position.

Installed a corrective ribbon on a SL480 typewritter, now I can't get the ribbon back on.

Sounds like the correction tape is not installed properly. Try remving and reinstalling it again. Make sure the hammer solenoid assembly is latched to its home position. After installin the correction tape you can manually operate the lift arms to check the feeding of the tape. If you have a loca dealer you can probaly take your machine to them and they may install the tape for you at no charge.

Lift off tape

Does the tape lift up far enough for correction? If so check to be sure the dull side of the tape is facing the paper. Then be sure you are using a correctable ribbon, the feed wheel should be either yellow or orange. DickyO

The correction tape isn't working. it's installed properly, i think, but it doesn't erase anything.

Try taking the tape out and re-installing with the "dull" side towards the paper...if that doesn't work try a new correction tape.

Be sure the correction tape is dry type, if it is a sticky one it will cause you all kinds of trouble.

Be sure the corr. tape not a tacky kind, then type some thing and correct it watching the mechinism th see which one turns and in what direction. Install the empty spool on that hub thread the L/O thru the guides with dull side facing the paper and then the full on the supply hub. there may be two or more guides depending on the printer.

Hope this helps
