SOURCE: gas tamk removal john deere 115

I had the same thing happen. I got the tank out, but it wasn't easy. Take out the bolts out that hold the rear end on. Take off the two springs that support the seat. Take out the battery and the battery tray. Take out the 6 bolts that hold the black cowling and the front of the green platform to the frame. This will allow you to lift the seat platform far enough off the rear end to allow the tank to be pulled out through the side. You also have to remove the metal bracket which holds the front of the tank and has caused the tank to leak in the first place. New tank is $56.00 not installed. I used a soldering gun and melted the plastic back together. I think it will hold quit a while. I know this is a little sketchy, but It worked for me.

SOURCE: John Deere 345 won't shut off

I would start with either replacing the key switch, or tracing the wires to make sure they are not touching together somewhere, completing the ignition circuit.

John deere 3800 tranmission oil leeking under cab somewhere

Hi Joe:
Nice looking tractor. I'm guessing you may have a leak in one of the hydraulic lines. There's usually access panels that you can remove so that you can see the lines and fittings. Sometimes a mirror on a handle and a flashlight will help you locate the problem. Once you find it, replacing the hose is usually easy and your local hydraulic shop will fabricate the needed part at a reasonable price.
SAFETY FIRST! Make sure that all hydraulics are lowered fully and that there is no residual pressure in the hydraulic tank. Open the filler cap to make sure.
Hope this helps.

No operators manual

I doubt your going to find a free manual for anythng John Deere makes let alone an older tractor. However..... You can get an operator's manual direct from JOHN DEERE by calling 1-800-522-7448 with credit card in hand.

A bit about the tractor itself. Note the links On the linked page below:

http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/001/8/0/1801-john-deere-1640.html

Again.. even with a source as good as that webpage you do not see an Operator's or an Owner's manual link.

IF your doing a course at a local college, try the college bookstore first. The manual will be much cheaper than buying it from John Deere.

Thanks for using FixYa,
