If its a through prop exhaust then need to use a press to get it out and back in ! most marine workshops or outboard breakers will have a supply of sec hand props and pos exchange yours against a new one !

I have an 85 HP Mercury Outboard and when you get to about 4000 rpm's it sounds like it is slipping, what can I look for..........

In the propeller is a rubber hub. It's between the driveshaft and the prop. Its job is to stop major damage if you hit something causing driveline damage. It will be starting to slip. Its called the rubber bush.It will need to be looked at.Take it to a prop shop because if you take it to a dealer, they will take it to a prop shop.More cost.Hope this helps

I have a johnson 50 hp outboard when travelling in excess of 5 knots the prop stops turning and motor revs high.

In the hub of the propeller is a rubber bush that stops damage to the shafts and g/box if something is struck with the prop. These bushes do give way and are repairable.See your local boat shop or look for a specialist propeller shop.Probably the latter as the boat shops sends the props to them anyway. Its called the propeller hub bush or just the prop bush.Just take the prop into them and all will be good.Hope this helps you

Help. recently cavitated my 140 hp 1989 mercury outboard motor at high speed.I Removed the lower unit several times but only goes in forward about 5mph. Please help Tx jack

Not really sure what is wrong.Do all the gears work?Does the motor rev properly.Did you change the height of the motor. If the motor etc. are all ok and the motor cavitated at high speed, you may have spun the bush in the propeller hub.The symtoms are, everything works ok but the boat can rev but will have very little forward propulsion. If this is it,the prop needs to come off and taken to be rebushed. The bush stops major damage to the g/box if the prop strikes something.Hope this helps
