Thanks Ernest but the solution is complicated by the Virgin+ box, it has HDMI that can be converted to DVI but only has an Optical Audio out. this is solvable by getting a converter but finding the right one is proving to be a pain.

The hdmi cable would not be compatible with your old style TV, if the Virgin box has a scart socket then that is your best option!

How do I connect a Virgin HDMI signal to my Samsung 400px

Since there is no tuner in a monitor, you need to get a tuner for it. A good and much cheaper alternative is a Roku Player. It will allow you to stream a WIFI signal from a wireless router to the tv. You can then get some free programming as well as a large selection of subscription services. Some cable companies offer local tv stations as a service to wifi enabled tv's too.

How can i watch tivo on my computer monitor

Hello,

Sorry to say but no, your monitor only has VGA which is an analog signal and HDMI is a digital signal. A cable will not convert between the two. There are digital to analog converters available but they run more than a new monitor. You can use any monitor that has a DVI port with an adapter cable because the DVI port is digital just like the HDMI port so a cable can convert the plug between the two and the signal will then be the same.

I have a JVC RM-C60 TV. I'm trying to tune it in to my Virgin Media HD box using a standard SCART lead but having no joy. It's completely failing to find the cable channel (or any other for that matter)....

Tuning of the TV not required when using scart lead, just select external input that the scartis connected to, ie AV1,AV2 (EXT1,EXT2) etc. The problem is possibly to do with the Virgin box, it may be set to HDMI out in which case it will not output anything via the scart lead, you would need to connect via an HDMI lead (small socket on the rear of the unit looks a little like a USB socket). Problem is if your TV is a CRT television its unlikely to have this socket. Your Virgin box can be reset to output via the scart but you would need to contact Virgin for this process.

No HDMI on the source list, i have a Virgin Media V+ Box with a HD cable pugged in and when i look at the source list the HDMI Port is not Highlighted, why is this? Please help

One of a few things are happening. If you are connected to the TV via the HDMI port and it doesn't become highlighted then either the main board on the TV is at fault, the HDMI output on the media box is not working (try on another TV if possible) or the HDMI cable itself is bad.

Why won't the HD channels come in on my lg flat screen monitor? We changed the cable box and everything. Any suggestions?

The first thing you need is the HD tuner. Since you stated that you changed the cable box I will assume that means it's HD ready.
So you have HD signal coming in to the cable box box by-way of a coaxial cable. Now you need to get that HD signal to the monitor. For this connection the standard coaxial cable normally used between the TV and cable box will not do the job. How many connection options you have depends entirely on the what is available on the monitor.
Normally there are three choices. Your monitor could have anyone of these, a combination of them or none if it's not HD ready.
They are Component cable, HDMI and DVI.
Component is a combination of three RCA type (red, blue, and green), connectors. Simply connect the "Component Out" from the cable box to the "Component In" on the monitor.
HDMI cable looks similar to a computer monitor cable but bigger. Same goes for this one. Connect the "HDMI Out" from the cable box to the "HDMI In" on the monitor.
An indirect connection can also be made if your monitor has a "DVI In" jack by using a cable that will allow you to come from the "Out" connection of either the HDMI or Component on the cable box to the "DVI In" on the monitor.
If you are unclear about anything or you have any other questions please just ask and I'll try and help out.
