Question about Emerson EWV403 VHS VCR

Open Question

Emerson VCR model EWV401B...transferring VCR tapes to my computer with a Roxio Video Capture USB device, worked great the first 5 tapes. Then ate one of my tapes. Took the top off to release tape (luckily no damage to tape) but now VCR won't work. Tried cleaning (youtube videos) but still won't work. I can put a tape in and it will catch tape but before it starts to play, it releases it and tries to eject causing the tape to stay in the vcr (eating it). Can it be fixed?

SOURCE: HI, I HAVE AN EMERSON VCR,EWV401B. AFTER INSERTING

Hello
There is something wrong with the tape running. It will be due to the mechanism itsef. Chang all the belts of the mechanism. The belts can be get in kit form, in most of the electronic spare part shops at your town, just give them the molde number of your VCR. They will give it to you the belt kit. OK.

ensure your cables are plugged into the red and white ports in the back, that controls the volume on the back. If your using the red, bule and green cable you still must use the red and white.

VHS to Easy capture to computer

The plugs you speak of are called RCA plugs, (Male side has an outside ring with "slots" around the edge, and a pin in the center. Female side has a short round "riser" with a hole in it). You need just standard Audio/Video hookup cables, available at any electronics store.. Walmart/Target/Kmart has them in the TV section. They get plugged into the Audio (Red & White) OUT of the VCR, into the Audio IN (Red & White) of the Easy Capture. The Yellow lead is for Video In/Out between the VCR and Easy Capture. The black is probably the S-Video connector, (round, has very small square hole, surronded by 4, 5, or 7 tiny pin holes) that can be also used to connect video/audio between VCR(if so equipped) and Easy Capture. Get a set of audio/video dubbing cables (abt $10 usually), connect Red to Red, White to White, Yellow to Yellow. Plug the Easy Capture USB cable into your computer (most likely), start the capture program. Start your vcr, hit Play. You should see your vcr tape playing on the computer screen.

I am attempting to convert a vhs tape to dvd. I have purchased a converter and cable to connect with computer via USB all seems OK cannot find if or where it transfers

You probably need some sort of media player or something that will allow your vcr to play the tapes through the computer and will allow you to save it in some type of format such as windows media player or something. After that you should be able to transfer it to DVD with a program such as roxio. To see if your computer is detecting your vcr hook it up go to my computer and look for a new storage device.

Can you get a wire to connect to the computer to transfer videos from a tape onto a computer???? Thanks so Much..........Lisa

Staples and other office/computer stores normally have very inexpensive (~$50) for "video transfer" devices. Normally they look like little boxes with RCA inputs and connect via USB. The software allows you to capture the video. The devices will work with any device that has RCA output.

Tuner cards are more expensive but have a little more latitude... They often will have coax input as well. If you are also interested in capturing TV (like through your media center on Windows) you might want to look into these. Make sure to buy one that is verified as Media Center Compatible (and the ones with the remote are great to have).

The easy part is physically getting the VCR to connect to the computer though but with the right device, the software will make capturing the video and creating a DVD or avi, etc a piece of cake! Good luck!

How to convert dv tape from Canon ZR20 to MY COMPUTER hard drive?

To transfer video off your minidv cassettes from your camcorder you would need to have a firewire connection to your PC. Either a 4 to 4 pin connection (laptop) or a 4 to 6 pin (desk top computer). USB is used only for picture still transfer. Here are the steps;

1. Plug your mini Dv camcorder into an outlet
2. Plug in you firewire connection into your computer, then plug the other end into your camcorder.
3. Turn on your camcorder and switch your camcorder to Play/VCR
4. Select the software that you want use to do the transfer. Windows Movie Maker is the most assessable software since you have XP on your computer
5. Name your file
6. Select capture from video device (automatically will allow you to save the entire tape and manually would allow you to capture parts of the tape).

Those are the basic steps in some detail. You can save your file from there or you can go on to edit.

Vhs to dvd

I looked up your PC and it has a TV tuner card and media center. You should be able to do basic video capture from the VCR with what you have already installed on the PC. I hate to ask this, but have you looked through the manual that came with the PC? That would be a better source in this situation than Windows help. Windows help is very generic and not specific to your PC. I have a little older Gateway PC with a basic TV turner and I was able to transfer videos over. The first thing to do is get to the point that you can see the video playing in media center. You may need to set it up to play thru channel 3 (like we did back when VCRs first came out) and once that is done, you can start recording that "broadcast". Once you have the videos, you can burn them to DVD.

There are a few 'minor' things, but I think you have the basics on the PC you have to do the job.
