Question about Kenmore Ovens

2 Answers

Popping noise, flames between oven and wall and burning plastic smell from Kenmore gas oven. We had noticed the smell off and on for 2 months, but the oven still worked properly until last night. I turned the oven off and immediately heard a popping noise like sparks and saw a glow from the space between the wall and the oven, which was gone by the time husband ran in room. We removed back panel and everything looked normal, ie, nothing was singed/burned. Repair guy said it's the main switch and will cost $180 to replace. The oven is 3 years old! Any idea if this is common and if this is a decent price?

Sounds like the insulation on the cord has been worn through and is shorting out. turn off the breaker pull out the oven and look where the cord goes into the oven and look for black burn marks.

SOURCE: Belling built in fan oven (XOU60FP)is overheating

I did a good search with google+ and fund the XOU60 manual at least here. Good and easy. It is the user manual and not a repair, maybe ask them to find the service manual also.

The wall behind my propane oven is black, why?

possibly the air shutters were not adjusted when new for propane use, most units come set-up to burl natural gas but need conversion to burn l.p. gas by changing the orfices on the top burners, then turning the orfice spuds down on the bake and broil orfices as to control the flow of a heavier gas and also opening the air shutters on these venturi gas feed tubes next to these orfices

Kenmore oven doesnt bake

Can I assume that you determined that the bottom burner flame is burning properly? To do this, remove the oven bottom insert. The flames should have approximately 1" of blue cone and should burn with no yellowing tip, if on natural gas. (A small yellow tip on the end of the outer cone is normal with most LP gas.) The flmaes should not lift off the burner ports. If the flame is lifting, gradually reduce the air shutter until the flame stabilizes.

The flame in my gas oven is flickering orange and it smells. Is this a gas leak (I need a gas man) or is it likely to be the oven?

either the orfices are dirty or you lack enough air to completely burn the gas,you might want to have a tech from the gas supplier look into adjusting air flow or cleaning orfices

Yellow flames causing carbon buildup

If the burner bar has an adjustable slider for increasing or decreasing air into the bar. That would be it. If not then there is a defect with the gas valve or burner bar.

Oven burner pulsates

The gas regulator valve would also be my first guess. It seems to not be allowing enough gas into the system. When the top is on, only a small amount of fuel is required, and when properly mixed with the air all is well, but when you also put on the oven, the regulator won't allow enough gas into the system, so it's "burning lean". I'd get it fixed before it pulsates so bad that it actually blows out the flames and you're left with a propane smelling dangerous house.
