Can a Fiesta Toaster #TS2012 be fixed when the lever handle won't stay down?

The inner workings are very flimsy metal. If you turn it upside down and remove the screws holding the cover on, you should be able to see a coil of wire and a latch, the latch grabs the lever on the handle. Either the latch is bent or the handle is out of line.

Lever won't stay down. Have removed all screws and could take off top but handle on lever prevents this. How do I remove the end of the lever in order to get the top off to check latching mechanism?

My toaster turned out to have an electromagnet that makes its lever and the toast carriage stay down. It turned out that the problem with my toaster was that it was plugged into a faulty outlet. Unfortunately, I destroyed part of my toaster's darkness mechanism trying to understand its latching mechanism before I realized that it was not made like traditional toasters. So my first recommendation to you: try plugging it into an outlet that you KNOW works.

Go to the Hamiton Beach website to see if your series has been recalled. I have same model, can't get base off and found recall notice looking for help. My series wasn't but yours might be. Good luck, might get a new toaster!

GE toaster model 169100. : the lever to toast won't stay down. I researched removing the base to clean the magnets, but not regular Phillips screws. Suggestions??

I have the same GE toaster and now my lever won\'t lock in place when I push it down to cook my toast. The handle does not pull off and when you turn the toaster over there are no screws to take the toaster apart. So I guess I have to say this is a disposable toaster but I am extremely bummed because it is beautiful and match decor and microwave that has the same color scheme as my toaster.

I wish companies would stop making cheap junk that doesn\'t last more then a few years.

How to remove the cover on an oster toaster TSSTRTS2S2-033

re: Oster TSSTRTS2S2-033 disassembly

Hi, I just took one apart to fix a cold solder joint, so here's my take on disassembly.

The brushed aluminum cover comes off by removing nine screws on the bottom, then manipulating seven tabs and removing the main handle on the plunger.

First, remove the main handle. It has a small plastic locking tab underneath and the tab may break because it hooks onto a metal spike in the toaster and this seems intended to be permanent. I broke it because I just pulled the handle straight off, but I'm not worried because the handle will still go back on reasonably tight; it just won't lock. However, if you want to try to remove it without breaking the plastic locking tab, I would try sticking a thin screwdriver under the bottom of the handle to disengage the plastic tab from the spike.

Next, remove nine of eleven screws on the bottom. Don't remove the two screws directly below the cord switch on the side - it should be obvious which two screws stay on. And take the crumb tray out too.

Next, there are three metal tabs on the bottom that need to be bent. Two of the tabs were held by the removed screws at the back of the toaster. Just bend those two out of the way away from the plastic bottom. The third tab is located in a hole directly between those other two tabs. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and twist the tab so it will unlock and allow the tab to slide through the slot in the plastic toaster bottom.

The four remaining tabs are located on the top of the toaster just inside the main toast slots. The top metal cover folds into the toast slots and forms metal tabs at each end of each toast slot. They unhook relatively easily by sliding the top cover tabs about 1mm towards the centre of the toaster - there's no bending of metal required.

At that point, it takes some playing around to actually remove the cover. Start by working it straight upwards, then lift it off at the back of the toaster first, before the front because there's a cable at the front of the toaster that prevents the top cover from lifting completely off straight up and, as well, the metal plunger arm that holds the handle will be the last thing to unhook. The plunger arm and the cord retraction mechanisms do get in the way, but it is possible to do it without forcing anything.

Note that after the metal cover is unfastened and pulled off, it is still attached to the toaster mechanism by a short internal electronics cable which connects the toaster to the front buttons in the cover. The front buttons and display remain attached inside the cover. At this point, the toaster should still function normally despite it having the cover off.

I hope that helps.

Toast will not stay down in toaster when lever is depressed, actually lever will not stay down. how to fix it?

Most times this is caused by a build up of crumbs in the bottom of the toaster. There is a small electo magnet that holds the lever down, if it gets covered in crumbs it won't work. Take it outside turn it upside down and bang the heck out of it till everything comes out. If this does not work then check and make sure the magnet is still attatched inside. Other than that, this toaster gets terrible reviews from folks with issues just like yours. I can only assume the electronics are failing on these units far to quickly. It can be repaired if yuou send it in to the manufacture but that is really not economical. I hope the upside down banging cures the problem.

I have a Breville toaster and the lever will not lock when toasting. I was able to remove the screws, but I am unsure how to remove the handle on the lever to allow the case to be removed.

1. Remove bottom screws;
2. Remove side handle;
3. Only pry up the casing from the black bottom base;
4. Turn the toaster back in up-right position;
5. Facing the lever end, (may be easier with a helper), lift the casing about 2-3 inches and unplug the wire on your left side then lift it up completely but be careful because another wire on the right side will remain attached;
6. You are now facing an electronic card and behind it lays the source of your problem. A small 3/4" x 1" white plastic. An electro-magnet. Some bread dust, not crumbs but real dust. You need to clean them all. probably easy with an air compressor or even a can of compressed air duster used for computer. The worse scenario is to unscrew what hold the electronic card in place and the 2 screw that hold the electric cord in place. Then you get a very good access the the source of the problem.

Even after 19 months, I did get a new toaster from our canadian Breville's distributor but after another 24 months, this time they offered me a 40% rebate to purchase a new one. No thanks, I decided to try to fix it or buy a different brand. We succeeded, my son and I. Good luck to you.

When i push the lever down to make toast, it does not stay

This is a problem, our old toaster had this problem, and it would only work if we jammed the handle down, but don't try this, only because ours broke after we tried this, but if you can send it to the manufacturure, they should be able to fix this. If you don't what to do this, please phone me at 505 9181, but please call me from 8:00-10:00, 2:30-8:00.
