In most laptops the hard drive is in the bottom of the computer, under a cover that is hold closed atleast with 2 screws. after removing those screws you should be able to open the hard drive cover, inside you will find the hard drive on a holder, you will in most laptops have few screws that hold the holder still, unscrew the holder and carefully pull the hard drive to the other direction DONT PULL UP, in most laptops you have to pull the drive horizontally or you might damage the connectors.

ones you have the drive and the holder out, you will need to unscrew the hard drive from its carriage / holder.

Screw in the new hard drive and place it back to the laptop the same way you took the old one out.

the problem could be with the motherboard of the laptop, it might be best to take it in for testing, also is it covered by warranty? if its on warranty hp will deal with it.

might be cheaper to take the laptop to someone who can test it with another hard drive instead of buying another one. I can't guarantee that it will fix the problem, since we don't know what the real problem is.

Hp say hard disk failed 301

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Remove the main battery, any change? next sub the power supply for another, no improvement! remove the hard drive, and sub out the ram memory one at a time. If the problem continues it is a motherboard issue, at this stage it must be evaluated.

Your hard drive may have failed.
I suggest you remove your hard drive and re-connect it to your laptop to make sure it is make proper connection. Boot up and go into the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected.
If the hard disk is not detected then most likely the hard disk has failed.
To get your laptop working, you will need to purchase a new hard disk and install Windows on the new hard disk plus the Pavilion device drivers and your programs,
You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP orVista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click onthis link to download the drivers: -

HP Pavilion zv6100 laptop CMOS will not recognize the HD

You could have a faulty disk controller. Try inserting a different working hard disk into the HP and see if it can detect it in the BIOS. If not then the disk controller is faulty and this is a motherboard problem. A replacement motherboard may not be worth it, put your money towards a new laptop and put the hard disk into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an USB external hard drive.

Bought HP Pavilion dv2910tx,not able to install Windows XP. Help

If the install cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faulty and needs replacing or the disk controller is faulty.
You can check if the hard disk is faulty by :-
Go into the BIOS and check if there a hard disk diagnostic.
If not then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of the drive then it is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the laptop.
To setup XP.
You insert the Windows CD and boot up the laptop with the CD.
You have done this correctly to get the hard disk error message.

XP on HP Pavilion dv2000

For the laptop with no hard drive detected, this is most likely because Windows XP does not recognize SATA drives by default, which the laptop most likely has. To solve this, you will need to enter the BIOS setup utility (most likely Delete or F1 on startup). From there, you will need to change the drive mode to Compatibility mode. I'm not sure where this would be, but if you check in your laptop manual, you can probably find this somewhere.

For the 2519TU, download and install this for the LAN driver: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp30001-30500/sp30264.exe it should work just fine.

Good luck!
