Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries.Check and clean the battery contacts inside the battery compartment, for any rust or dust accumulated, which prevents proper battery connection to its terminals.Clean it well, before inserting batteries. If you are using a universal remote control, you have to set it up with the set-up code to your TV brand, otherwise it won't work properly. If you wish to get more codes and other details check: has setup code list, and setup procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check the site in 'Mosaic' view.It will make search easy.

(Some universal remotes do not work with newer televisions, so the following instructions may not work)

Turn on the television.
Hold the 'CODE SEARCH' button for 3 seconds until the LED light is solid red.
Press the 'TV' button; the LED will blink once and remain solid red.
Point the remote at the TV and slowly and repeatedly press the 'ON/OFF' button until the TV turns off. (The LED will blink once each time you press the 'ON/OFF' button.
Once the TV turns off, press the 'ENTER' button; the code will be stored in the remote and the LED will turn off.
The remote should now work with the TV; test it out to see how it works.

(The remote may be too old for your TV; if the above instructions don't work you may need to get a newer remote.)

I have an old remote that works for a VCR and I did have it working for the TV but one day someone was playing with buttons and it stopped working. I was wondering how to program my Toshiba vc 260 remote...

Try the following procedure:

1. Make sure there are working batteries in the Toshiba remote control.
2. Turn on your television set, DVD player or other device that you want to control with the Toshiba remote.
3. Find the "Recall" or "Setup" button on the Toshiba remote control. After you find it, press and hold down that button until the lights on the remote control turn on and remain lit.
4. Point the Toshiba remote at the device you turned on in Step 2 and press the button on the remote for that device.
5. Begin pressing the "Power" button on the Toshiba remote. Continue doing this until you have turned the device off using the Toshiba remote. Once it shuts off, press "Enter" on the Toshiba remote. The remote will then be programmed.

TV won't turn on with remote, but remote does work.

If the control buttons on the side/back of the tv works then you can verify the remote works.
Take a digital camera(turned on) and point the remote at the lenses. Press the remote buttons and look for flashes on the camera's lcd.
If the remote works then the remote receiver on the set may be bad and need to be repair/replaced.

Remote hardly works.

Have you replaced the batteries in the remote with fresh batteries? If you have, then you may have IR interference that may be causing the intermittent loss of function on your remote. Try turning all components off, including any lights, to see if the remote works. If it does work, turn 1 component on at a time and trying the remote to see if it works. If the remote doesn't work after turning a component on, that is probably what is causing the problem. If it still doesn't work after turning all components on, you may need a new remote. I hope this helps.

Will not recognize a remote

Olevia has no remote code like all the other brands... it is too new.  the universal remotes were made without Olevia codes because there weren't any.  i'm not sure if/when this will change, but i can't wait.  right now we mostly control the TV volume by using the stereo remote........
