Question about Jenn-Air JSD2789GEB Side by Side Refrigerator
Noticed some buzzing noise, sometimes when compressor would shut off, could this have been a defrost relay trying to switch on?.
This is a side by side, the freezer door got left slightly open a few
times, and then fridge side was not as cool as it should be. Looked at
coils in freezer and they were frosted up thus no air-flow to fridge.
Manually defrosted and was ok again for a while. Now I think the
defrost cycle may not be working at all, have not noticed any buzzing like before. Freezer stays well cold, but
fridge eventually gets a bit warmer. Please help with what to
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

id say your right the unit should defrost for 30 mins of every 8 hours of compressor runnig time now that's not normal time because the thermostat cuts the unit off and on every now and then . the timer for defrost measures how long the compressor runs and it varies with how often the doors are open im sure parts of your defrost system are inoperative send me an e mail with your model number and i will help email@example.com

defrost problems are caused by 3 things
bad: 1) defrost timer/ timer board 2) defrost heater (in freezer) or burnt wire going to the heater 3) bi-metal thermostat (round metal piece attached to the coils with at least 2 wires going to it)
a good technician can test components without the machine running. all you need is a simple $5 meter any tech that gets angry, show him/her the door!

SOURCE: freezer is frosting up
check your gasket on the freezer it may not be sealing properly. that is the main cause of the freezer compartment frosting up. also when you defrosted it did you otice if the drain line was clear and the water was going out of the freezer?

Hi: Did you check the defrost heater itself? I checked Jennair and Sears parts to no avail. If you didn't check the heater it will be at the bottom of the freezer behind where you removed the back cover. A glass tube with a coil in it. If the coil or tube is broken replace that insead. I hope I helped, Jeff I found a website with the defrost timer, but not the location of the timer on the fridge. http://www.appliancepartsworldwide.com/store_SearchResults.aspx?S=1131392&ST=PBM

Tips for a great answer:
Feb 03, 2015 | Jenn-Air Ovens
The newest defrost
feature in modern fridges is the electronic adaptive defrost control board. Maytag/Jenn Air has one version, see diagram...to
put this adaptive defrost style of fridge into defrost, short with a small
screwdriver between L1 and test on the adaptive defrost board, wait 3 seconds
and you should hear a "click" noise from the relay and the fridge will
shut off and go through a defrost cycle.
