It seems that your magenta nozzle is not working. It may need to replace the head itself.

SOURCE: HP C5180 yellow cartridge empty

Thanks for everyone for posting there problem with HP C5180 with the yellow ink being empty. With out this I would not figure and made attempt to fix it.
Credit to Longtimemacuser @ http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/print?board.id=Printing&message.id=525&page=1&format=page

Same here-  I'm running into this problem for the second time in less than 3 weeks on my HP C5150. . Brand new cartridge installed, and it is fine for a day - then 2 days later, after NO color printing - it suddenly shows as completely empty.

Last month when I had the same problem, customer support suggested the following, which seemed to work.
(typos were theirs - I just copied and pasted):

Please try the following step's
Power your C5150 on and remove all 6 cartridges and close the cartridge access door
With your C5150 powered on unplug the power cord directly from the back
Press and hold the OK button and the HELP button down together while you plug the power cord back in
Keep the button's held down until the display screen goes blank then release the button's and power your C5150 back on
When you are prompted on the display screen to install the cartridges install all 6 cartridges and close the cartridge access door
Are you still getting the same message ?

I did the printer reset but I only removed the yellow cartridge. follow the on-screen prompt and this process will take about 3-5 minutes. When everythings done, suggest to clean the printer head

Hope this help
Anthony L.

SOURCE: Change region code on my printer to except 02 ink instead of 363

I moved from the UK to the US with an hp 7310 all in one and also ran into the same problem. You need to call HP support for them to change the region of your printer to accept the locally available ink cartridges. A max of 3 changes is allowed, and as the previous poster has mentioned, if your printer is out of warranty they will try to sell you an extended warranty to "fix" the problem. Here is a link from baconvsprout detailing the problem and trying to get it fixed. http://www.baconvsprout.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=101:hp-customer-service-and-region-coded-printers&catid=35:sprout&Itemid=59
in short the best way to get around it is to get your cartridges refilled. In the US Office Max charges $10 for black which is about1/5 the price of the retail hp393 cartridge that I need to purchase from the UK. in my opinion I am going to avoid HP products from now on.

I can't produce green colors. I have cleaned the printer head with no impovement. Can this part be replaced? How would I know if the problem is electrical and not physical? Peter

I assume by cleaning you mean pressure FLUSHING the ink channel with cleaner, not just wiping the head. You have to charge the ink channel after flushing to prime it.

The cost of a replacement part probably makes it un-economical to do a replacement.

Testing for electrical problem without schematics would be hard.

Do check that the flex carriage cable connection is good.

Alarm flashes ink emptyhas ink! color was printing only yellow/green now prints only red/pink!

any chance it has dried out? run the test / head cleaning / did you reset the cartridge when you replaced it? generally if one or two colors work - the problem is the ink cartridge or the head for the colors not working. Did you remove the "tape" on the new cartridge?

Printer wont recognize new ink cartridge

Few thing to try...
*Clean the cartridge head with dry or little alcohol damp cloth.
*Reinstall the cartridge.
*Run the head cleaning and liniment program that came with the printer.

this should help, if not it need to go to service center.

Horizontal colored lines through grayscale printed photos

Hi George,

It sound's like an ink-feed issue:

1) Dirty heads, even after cleaning
2) No-ink or poor quality ink
3) Damaged head: some are part of the cartridge, some are not
4) Air bubbles in ink

The test page is typically not as hi-res nor as saturated as a
photo print. The hi-res photo puts the greatest demand on the print head.

The color lines you see are actually lines of missing color,
where the head has failed to deposit ink, so one or two primary
colors are missing from the complete picture.

For example missing yellow will make a blue line.
Missing magenta will make a green line
Missing cyan will make a red line.... etc..

Clean the heads again and again, print again and again,
hoping to flush the system.

BUT, keep in mind that cleaning wastes huge amounts of
ink and tiny little cartridges of ink cost more than many new printers.
