The unit does not function - The display fickers rapidly. There is no 5V and only 7V from the power supply board. I can only conclude it is faulty. I need a new one?

Cyberhome CH-DVD300 DVD Player

Symptom: Unit will not power up at all. Power indicator doesn't work.
or after inserting disk, screen says "loading disk" but then
says "bad disk".
Solution: This problem is usually caused by a bad 5Volt power supply.
Check the 5V output of the power supply board. The output
plug is clearly marked. If this 5V is less than 4V, the unit will
not operate. This is caused by defective filter capacitors in the
5V supply. These caps are easily identified. Replace these
two with the same values and the 5V should return to normal.
Note: Because of the confined spaces on the board, only use caps
that are of the same physical size. Capacitors are made in a
varity of hights and diameters with the same electrical
specifications. Do not try to pigtail a larger cap in circuit. The
circuit will not work correctly. I can supply these if you can not
find them locally.

Start up light flashes once and it won't power on

Most probable cause is the power supply. Look at the back of the computer, check the voltage settings located near the power cord. This will be the small red tab indicating two different settings, If your in the US it should be set to 115. Also, the power supply should run the internal fan when it is turned on.

To test the power supply try this:

Open your computer case and locate the gray box that is the power supply unit. Trace the wires from the power supply to the boards and devices and disconnect all the cables by unplugging them.

Find the big connector plugged on the the motherboard, make sure it is disconnected and short the two pins: (GREEN & BLACK) Short green pin (14) to GND (any black) to switch power supply ON, disconnect green from GND to switch OFF.

This will switch the power supply, you should hear or see the fan in the power supply spin. If you do not see the fan spinning, and your sure you have shorted the correct wires, you have a faulty power supply. If you see the fan spinning, you can now test the voltage coming out of the power supply.

Place a volt meter on the following colors to test voltage:

The color code for the wires is: Red = +5V, Black = Ground (0V), White = -5V, Yellow = +12V, Blue = -12V, Orange = +3.3V, Purple = +5V Standby (not used), Gray = power is on (output), and Green = Turn DC on (input).

Hp Pavilion getting no power after relocating pc.

the Power transformer has diferent outputs, +5V,-5V,3V,12V and so on.., but has a standby output a low power 5v to power button function.
Your PC have Power supply Defective,
so your must find a usual spare power supply on the market, compatibilty as 115V input and more of 350W power, to have stabilty.

Philips 42PF5321D/37 Plasma No Picture Six Red LED Flashes

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.
Counting of number of blinks to Philips TVs is entirely different to that of other brand TVs. It is not a direct count procedure. The site have details about how to count the number of LED blinks [Fault Codes] to Philips brand TVs are given; along with details of the faulty circuit location.

Gateway 900g

I'm writing this using a recently repaired Gateway 900g. You may be correct about the power supply, as that was the problem on this unit. There was absolutely no response with this unit. No blue LED, no dim display. Nothing.

WARNING: BE SURE TO UNPLUG THE AC LINE CORD. THE POWER SUPPLY HAS DANGEROUS 120 VAC PRESENT IF LEFT PLUGGED IN. If you don't know what you're doing, it's best not to attempt a repair!!!

Disassembly is a bit tricky, and there's a variety of different sized screws used; so keep track as you go. First you remove the front bezel (be careful as the two control boards on the lower right need to be disconnected). There are two screws (lower left and lower right) that secure the shell, the rest of the frame is just a snap fit around the perimeter.

Then remove the 6 screws that hold the LCD frame to the rear plastic shell. Careful here as well, as you must disconnect the back light cables AND the signal cable to separate the LCD from the Power Supply / Signal Processing board.

The Power Supply board mates to the Signal Processing board thru a 2x5 pin header. This contains convenient points to check the +12V and +5V supplies. In my case the +12V was OK, but the +5V was reading about +2.5V...not good! THIS IS REALLY DANGEROUS TO CHECK AS THE 120VAC IS ONLY AN INCH AWAY.

Here was the key symptom on my unit. Your's may not be the same. If I disconnect the Power Supply from the Signal Processing board, then the +12V and +5V read correctly (as well as the +16V that goes to the Backlight Inverter section).

However, once I connect the Signal Processing board, the +5V drops to +2.5V. However, the Signal Processing board seems to run correctly off of an external supply drawing about 300mA.

On closer inspection of the Power Supply board, I notice that 4 capacitors had buldging tops (domed). This indicated some stress. These were capacitors C205, C206 (470uF/25V) in the +16V section; and C210 (470uF/25V) and C209 (220uF/25V) both in the +5V section. I didn't have a Capacitance Meter handy, so it was simpler to just replace all four parts with similar values. (There's a lot of latitude in making these substitutions.) But be sure you have voltages a *least* greated than those needed; i.e. 16V or 5V. They used 25V to have plenty of headroom.

After replacing the 4 Capacitors, the Voltages and Blue LED responded normally. After reconnecting to the LCD assembly, all was well. Reverse the disassembly process, and you are ready to go.

Westinghouse LTV-32w6 power light on, no video, no sound

One thing is to make sure the inverter board is unplugged when testing the voltages. A shorted inverter will shut down the power supply if the fuse dosen't blow first. There are fuses that don't look like fuses so they can be missed. The next thing would be to look for a connector from the main to power supply and see if there is a pin labeled power on or p.on or similar. The main board should turn this line high(5V) when you push the power button. If not you probably have a bad main board. Unless you can find good used boards they are both expensive. Around $200 for PS and $300 for main.

About the DLP TV you helped with.

Brandon. Locate CN110 on the DMD its a wire plug. Pin 2 is gorund pin 4 is voltage for the color wheel. When the color wheel is off pin 4 should have 5V on it when power is pressed it should have 7v for the color wheel to start. If the voltages on pin 4 is 5V your DM is ok and Color wheel would be indicated as faulty, But if pin 4 is anything less than 5V its the DM which is faulty.

Faulty power supply unit?

You can contact the manufacture to purchase the power supply module.

However, there are other boards in the set that can easily cause the power supply failure because something went defective. It is also possible that the power supply is not defective, but it is in protect mode because of a failure on another board, or in some other device in the set.

The tech would follow procedure from the service manual using the proper instrumentation and diagnostics to determine the defective board(s). Then he would replace the necessary modules and or parts to get the set working again.

In the end if you try fixing this yourself, you can end up spending a few hundred dollars on a power supply and only find that it blows again or goes in to protect mode because the original fault was not determined and corrected.
