SOURCE: Steam is escaping from the sealed tank. Pro expess

I haven't solved the problem yet. I didn't realise, to begin with, that I was on a USA website. I am in Uk and felt this would be too problematic with charges etc.
Thanks for getting in touch I'll get back if I need to.

Oval lid, what is the correct fit, should it be a tight fit, or my just sits on top, there is a small space around.

You should have a fit that has a little wiggle room, including a little space around the edge of the lid. When you cook in a slow cooker, you'll make a bit of steam, and it needs room to escape. A super tight lid would likely end up 'burping', and possibly spraying spurts of whatever your sauce is, across your kitchen. Having that small groove there also leaves you a space where a bit of steam can condense and either trickle back into the pot to keep things moist, or just sit there in the gap and not drip all over your counter. Having a little bit of give also means that if you cook and let things cool, the condensing steam won't create a partial vacuum and leave you having to plant a foot on the side of the crock pot to pull the lid off (likely with more spectacular spew-age ready for viral videos).

Cheers!

My pressure cooker always makes a hissing sound. Is that close properly?

As long as the lid is properly locked into position it should be closed properly. A certain amount of air and steam will escape from the valve on the lid and will male a hissing sound but this is perfectly normal.

My hoover steam vac

OKay! I've figured it out! After making sure I had the cleaning solution container connected properly, the "lint filter" thingy clear, the attachment plug thingy unplugged, the filter in it's proper position, (about a cm down from the seal), and the seal on the filter was all good, etc etc etc, the brushes in properly...I was about to drive over this steam cleaner with my car!

After taking a break and going back to it, I discovered that I didn't have the lid to my dirty water tank (or air tank, as I was starting to call it) properly closed. There are two lips that you have to make sure the lid "hinges" from, and THEN snap the lid shut. This made a seal that allowed this steam cleaner to **** up all kinds of gooey gunk from my carpets! The brushes work, the suction works, it's a FABULOUS machine! It doesn't get any louder when it's sucking up water, either.

All this AND I had the instructions! Go figure!

Kenmore Elite coffeemaker - excess steam

Fold a large piece of foil into quarters. Place foil over reservoir and firmly close lid. Open lid and massage edge of foil inside and out with finger to get a kind of cap. Remove foil and trim neatly around outer edge of lip. Fill reservoir with water, place cap on top and close lid. Make coffee.

Crock pot use

You should keep the lid on as much as possible. You are correct; once you open the lid, the liquid inside can quickly lose temperature at a rate of 10-15 degrees per minute.

Additionally, taking the top off allows steam to escape, which reduces the point of cooking in a slow cooker (cooking in a relatively closed system, with the steam condensing back to water and flowing back into the broth).

It's not doing a whole lot to the flavor (aside from causing the stew to thicken with the loss of water), but it is definitely causing the cooking to take longer than it should.
