Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

1 Answer

Yamaha RX-V663 turns off right after switching it on

It had this issue already a year ago. Then an reset to factory default solved the problem. Now I habe not used the receiver for two weeks (power disconnected) and the first start failed. I have disconnected all wires (besides power), but the receiver does not start. 1. When holding straigt and audio select and swiching the receiver on, it say PS2 PRT: 079L and SLEEP in blinking. 2. I go to 23. Present and switch to RSRV and switch the receiver off. 3. Starting the receiver again with straight and auido select pressed, it still has SLEEP blinking, but says NO PROTECT. 3. Turnung receiver off and classical on, it turns off after a first "click". Any hint, where I can start to search for the problem? thanks

The display of PS2 PRT means there is a problem with the power supply. Could be a voltage regulator gone bad, very hard to tell without getting inside.

Yamaha receiver RX-V663

Make sure you have an analog RCA audio cable from the source to the receiver. Digital coaxial or optical will not work for zone 2 or zone 3. By adding an analog cable it will not affect your main zone, it will always go to digital first. Hope this helps

Switching from comcast to verizon fios my rx-v663

This usually means your receiver is not passing the HDCP copyright protection correctly. Try using component cables instead, if your receiver supports it.

a panasonic tv will shut down after a short time with no video input. it sounds like the setup menu in the receiver has defaulted and needs to be setup again to coordinate the audio and video signals. ive seen many yamaha menus default. dont let geeks in your house.

On zone 2 of my yamaha rx v663 receiver it says fixed when I try to adjust the vlume and won't let me cut it up or down.

Check the setup menu of the receiver on zone 2 settings most likely the error is a fixed volume setting for this zone. If not found, reset factory settings and try to setup everything again. If the problems persists, contact your vendor if still under warranty.

I had the same problem with RXV3900, was told by verizon and yamaha it's a software issue with the box. Verizon is suppose to be working on a new update, but no time frame for now. I'm using component to receiver, and hdmi to tv with no issues.

Yamaha RX-V663 - HDMI doesn't work.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a workaround:
  • as you posted, audio out of the DVD goes to the receiver;
  • HDMI out of the DVD goes to the Schaub Lorenz LCD.
Even if it were a compatibility issue or HDMI processor issue on the receiver, the above should get you going.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Audio but no video from Sony Blu-Ray w/ HDMI hookup to RX-V663

Okay...my first contribution to any forum but I have the same problem (Yamaha RX-V663 and Samsung Blu Ray) and found the solution. The problem is you probably have your HDMI cables from your DVD player and reciever connected to a DVI input on your TV. The DVI may have problems communicating--not HDCP compliant. My system was working great then I hit a button on my remote...just playing around. I think it was the pure audio and I turned off the receiver. After that, the audio worked but there was no video. After many frustrating hours, the fix was to unplug the HDMI and DVI cable then turn the power off, cycle the power again, and plug the HDMI and DVI cables back in (the DVI was the last cable plugged in, not sure if that matters). By unplugging everthing you've reset the communication between the HDMI components and the DVI TV.

See page 18 of the yamaha owners manual, second to last note on bottom right of the page. It says there may be a problem...

I also noticed that the yamaha reciever was sending 1080p (my older tv is 1080I) and that is why the video wouldn't display on the TV. You can see this in the video signal info screen, unfortunately there is no setting to switch it back, just recycle the cables and power and it should reset.

Uncredibly frustrating but I got my picture back!
