Re: gps module

I just went through this with Lowrance. tthe LGC 2000 module on my LCX 20 depth finder "quit responding" out of the clear blue. You have to go and they have some tests you can follow to see if it is a bad cable or the module itself. I had to replace the module. They charged $99 bucks plus $12.50 shipping for a new one. I bought it spring of 2008, and the unit was 3 months out of warranty when it quit working. Last season I had lower back fusion and didn't use it except for 2 times late in the season. Getting ahold of Lowrance is going to be an experience. I called twice and waited on hold over 35 minutes before I was suddenly cut off both times. I tried email too, but it took 3-5 days to receive a response. Mine broke down June 18 of this year. I started trying to get hold of Lowrance the next day. By the time all the back and forth emails with the delayed responses were done, I received my new unit on July 24. 5 weeks! with out my gps in MN. It is a short season up here as it is. I sure didn't enjoy waiting that long.

Hello- My 332c will not show speed. It worked before. The spinner wheel is not damaged.Speed just flashes 0.00 mph Thanks, Jeff

Try setting up the speed in the overlay data menu again:
1. Press MENU, arrow down to OVERLAY DATA and press ENT
2. Highlight the option for speed (WATER SPEED or GROUND SPEED) and press ENT
3. Highlight the REMOVE button and press ENT
4. Highlight (PRESS ENT TO ADD) and press ENT
5. Arrow down to SONAR DATA and press ENT
6. Arrow down to WATER SPEED and press ENT, a check will be displayed in the box
7. Press EXIT twice

If the speed is still flashing, the data is still invalid. Try resetting the unit completely:
1. Turn unit off
2. Press and hold the PAGES and POWER key until the "DO NOT RELY..." alarm appears
3. Set up the overlay data for speed again: 1. Press MENU, arrow down to OVERLAY DATA and press ENT; 2. Highlight (PRESS ENT TO ADD) and press ENT; 3. Arrow down to SONAR DATA and press ENT; 4. Arrow down to WATER SPEED and press ENT, a check will be displayed in the box; 5. Press EXIT twice

If the speed is still flashing, good chance the speed sensor is bad even though the wheel still spins. Install the latest LMS-332 updates from and set up the overlay data again.

If it turns out that the speed sensor is bad, just use speed from the GPS. This can be set up from the overlay data menu as GROUND SPEED.

(note: the overlay data must be set up for each page individually. So if you set up speed to be displayed on the map screen, it will not also be set up on the sonar page)

Hi,when i switch on my lms-332c the map does not come up on the screen. If I remove and replace the map card it works perfectly. Can I fix this? regards nigel

I am guessing that the card you are using is a NAVIONICS chart? There have been some Lowrance units that were made around the same time that have had problems recognizing a Navionics chart right from power up.

Make sure the LMS-332 has the latest firmware version which can be downloaded from

If the update doesn't help, this is going to be a compatibility problem with the LMS-332 and that particular card. You will need to replace the card or upgrade to a newer unit...but probably can just get used to removing and replacing the card when you turn the unit on.

I have a lowrance LMS 332C GPS. After 5 years I

The LGC-2000 is bad would be the most likely cause, but if this started right after you changed the cables, Try connecting the NMEA 2000 network to a different power source than the main power. If you still have the original cables, and you didn't have the problem before, try using those again to make sure there isn't anything wrong with any of the new cables.

But most likely, the LGC-2000 is toast and you will want to contact Lowrance support to see about getting it repaired/replaced.

Gps error message "gps module not responding"

Check the connectors and wiring between the GPS module and sonar unit. If it's an internal GPS module yo may have knocked loose a connector internally.

had same problem with lms337. i had upgraded the unit but had not upgraded the lms2000 gps module. i was turning the isolator on in the boat which powers up gps module, if the lms337 is not powered up as well the gps unit goes to sleep. the upgrade fixes it by checking that the unit has not been turned on periodically. otherwise as soon as you power up gps module also turn on lms337. lowrance product support sorted this for me.

GPS Module not responding

i just got it back from Lowrance and they replaced antenna and it works, but for how long is anybody's guess. The technician at Lowrance told me the antenna should be at least 3 feet from base unit and he thinks that is problem, because mine is only 2 feet. Why doesn't it say that in manual, if true and why doesn't MarineMax install it properly. MarineMax just gave up trying to help me, even though it was under their warranty. They just care about the sale and their installation was shoddy at best with wires hangiing all over the place. I decided to take care of it myself, so we will see.
