A couple of gallons of VINEGAR in HOT water...let it sit in the drum for about an hour or so, then run through a full cycle of HOT water to rinse.

It not only removes dirt and oil and grease, it also removes ordors.

Go to the store and buy a bottle of CLR. Run a few cycles of it (without the clothes in there, of course!). Make sure you run a few cycles of just straight water before you attempt to wash clothes. That should do it. I've also heard of people using powdered lemonade to clean the inside of dishwashers, too. Maybe try the powdered lemonade first if you're squeamish about damaging something.

could just need a good clean. these machines remove dirt from clothes very well, but it can build up on the inside of the outer. disconnect power, remove top (two screws under covers under lid), remove top bowl ring (8 clips) remove agitator (1 screw deep inside) remove inner bowl. scrub it. also trying a hot wash with some cleaning product to flush the machine every couple months can stop this happening in the future.

Possible that there is dirt in the drum that comes up when the drum revolves. This can be due to dirt that had accumulated within and needs to be removed. Please try to watch this link and get some tips to clean the drum.

HOW DO U YOU CLEAN IT

When the washer is not in use you should leave the door open at least a crack to let the washer air out. About once a month, pour about a cup of bleach, white vinegar or washer magic in the tub and turn the washer onto the clean cycle or just a hot cycle if clean cycle is not available with no clothes in the washer. washer the inside glass door especially near the bottom of the door. This is where alot of dirt and hair accumulates. Make sure that you are using HE soapl

My maytag neptune washer is spotting my laundry - especially light colored towels with possibly an oil spot - about the size of a dime or sometimes quarter. I tried running a cleaning disc thru it twice ,...

f you use cold water wash and rinses regularly it may have an accumulation of un-dissolved detergent, dirt/grime and body oils stuck on the inside wall of the outer tub. When washing whites I assume that you are using Hot water and it could be causing some of the accumulation to break loose in small clumps and re-depositing on the clothes.

Dirt spots in clothing

Without knowing the model number of your washer I will not be able to provide any model specific information. You did not indicate the size or shape of the spots. If you use cold water wash and rinses regularly it may have an accumulation of un-dissolved detergent, dirt/grime and body oils stuck on the inside wall of the outer tub. When washing using Hot water, it is causing some of the accumulation to break loose in small clumps and re-depositing on the clothes.

When this happens, the basket normally must be removed in order to scrap and clean the accumulation from the inside of the outer tub. Also, make sure to clean under the agitator when you remove it. Here is a video to show you how to get to the outer tub.

Black type residue being left on clothes

Hi there,

This is a common problem on washing machines, if you predominantly do cold washes.

Over a period of time, a washing machine will accumulate a buildup of Soap Scum (excess soap & softener residue) which can stick to the inside of the drum.

This black coloured soap scum occasionally breaks away from the drum, and attaches to the clothing fabric during the wash cycle.

You can rectify this, by doing the following:

Firstly, purchase a packet of CITRIC ACID from your local grocery store (usually found in the baking isle).

Do the following procedure before going to bed:

1) Do a HOT WASH without clothes (Hi water level, with HOT water) - allow machine to fill with hot water, then add the CITRIC ACID to the water. Allow the machine to complete a FULL wash cycle (i.e. allow machine to agitate for 30 mins or so, then drain).

2) Fill the machine again with the HOT water / CITRIC ACID solution, but this time allow it to sit in the bowl overnight (no cycle).

3) Next morning, set machine to spin & drain (i.e. to empty the solution)

4) Set machine to fill with FRESH HOT WATER ONLY (no citric acid), then set machine to spin & drain. This will flush all remaining residue left in the bowl.

Note: Soap scum residue is caused by using excess detergent/fabric softener. Hot Water flushing should be done every 6 months.

Contrary to what the detergent manufacturers state, you should follow Samsung's instructions by using HALF the recommended detergent.

Samsung machines prefer LOW SUDS, and you may find by reducing the amount of detergent used, you may even eliminate the buildup of soap scum.

Dirt around the rubber insert!!

Your washing machine probably just has a build up of dirt in the basket. When you look inside the basket you see all those holes that are all over it. Dirt will stick inside there and after time will start coming out during washes. A simple thing that you can do to fix this is run some vinegar through the wash. Pour it in the basket, the soap, fabric softener, and bleach dispensers. Wash on hot and extra large load. Make sure no clothes are in it of course. This is something you can do every few months or so. Not only will it clean out the machine but it will clean out all the hoses and any hard water deposits. Your clothes will start smelling better and looking cleaner. Give that a try though. If your machine is 8 years old chances are this is the problem. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know if this is helpful to you. Good luck and I am always happy to help out.

Kenmore washing machine

YOUR ASSUMPTION IS CORRECT THAT IS CAUSED BY THE DIRT BETWEEN THE DRUMS.THE EASIEST WAY TO CLEAN THAT IS TO FILL THE MACHINE WITH BOILING HOT WATER AND LET IT SOAK FOR THREE HOURS.THEREAFTER START THE MACHINE ON THE SHORTEST WASH PROGRAM AND LET IT WASH OUT.DONT USE ANY DETERGENTS OR CLEANER.ALSO BEST YOU DO THAT EVERY THREE MONTHS TO AVOID IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

GOOD LUCK.AND PLEASE RATE THE SERVICE

Flakes of dirt on washing

Is this perhaps a second hand machine or it has possibily been stored away for some time? When a washer dries out inside ( behind the washer bowl ) and is then put back in service, dirt from years of use caked on insides flakes away ( like a dry leaf crumbles) and re-enters the wash and can end up on washed clothing. The only way to stop this is complete removal of washer bowl , scrub and clean insides to remove caked on dirt - reassembly. problem fixed !
