Sir,
It is problem with Operating system or drivers. Go to control panel, click the icon system, go to hardware tab, go to device manager, check the listing of cd/dvd drive below it something like yellow with exclamation mark. U should not install the driver. so reinstall the driver and install it

Thanks Good Luck

Booting from CDROM might be the easiest way to have the OS installed. If the BIOS supports booting with USB flash drive, you can use a bootable OS USB flash drive. Making one bootable USB flash drive may be a little complicated if you don't have a CD of the operating system.

Otherwise you have options of those miniSD card or PCMCIA cards with the size of your credit card which can be used as an extension of your input devices or storage devices if you can find those ports on your laptop. PCMCIA cards are developed through time and having quite a bit versions and standards. I suggest you to contact Dell to make sure that laptop support certain types of PCMCIA card.

DELL INSPIRON 1525 not recognizing CDROM Drive

  1. ensure drive is recognized by the BIOS (It should be ID'd by model in BIOS
  2. If drive is seen normally in bios, then try the fixit utility in this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
  3. See if you can boot to the drive using your Vista DVD and run a repair my computer from DVD
  4. If none of the above works, replace the drive. If system will boot to DVD, then reinstall Vista

New Dell desktop can't recognize external hard drive

I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especialy true if you move a HUB to another port

If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further

CDRom is not present in Vista 32 - Shows driver not working...

Check "Computer" or My Computer and see if the drive is there. If not, reboot the system and go to the System Setup page (hit F2 on the Dell splash screen). Check if the CDROM drive is present under Drive Configuration. If not, reseat the CDROM drive. Remove it from the computer and just put it back in. If you think this is a software issue, backup all your files to a USB flash drive and do an image restore. Hit F8 several times continuously when you see the Dell Splash Screen then select Repair Your Computer. Login on the System Recovery Page. Choose Dell Factory Image Restore. This will bring your computer back to where it started.

Please rate this if this helps.

Dell l400 problem

1.If you purchase an external USB CD drive you will not need to use your floppy discs for booting. 2. You can connect a USB CD drive to your system. 3. Your system will recognize any device plugged into your USB drive. 4. There is no CD drive available for internal installation in your computer. 5. With the USB CD drive plugged in and the windows installation disc inserted, your computer should take you through the setup program automatically.

Dell server

1) it may just be a driver issue. look up the control panel / devices. if you see a yellow marker , then the drive is at fault . find the driver and install, then try again.

2) maybe the cdrom is dead , try change to another one.

3) if you dont have spare , plug in an external usb cdrom drive . this way , you can still do the update. many dell laptops use external usb cdrom.

Brand new Seagate Maxtor OneTouch 4 plus 750 Gb isn't recognized

jumpered wrong or its a fake drive (knockoff) but doubtful so the real diagnostics is
start run diskmgmt.msc in it you will find if drive is unalocated or not even detected. if its not detected goto run type eventvwr and check in system for errors ..

im starting to think upper and lower cdrom filters are causing usb issue. i had issues with old zip drive software causing this.

Cd rw/dvd rw now working

If you know how to open your laptop, you can try seeing if the cable to the CDROM is connected properly. On startup, does your computer recognize the drive? If it's not the cable, you need a new cdrom drive.

Reading Data CD's

Hmmm... were the cd's originally burned using that laptop? Or were they burned on a different pc?

It could be as simple as your cdrom doesnt like something about those cd's. Or it could be a flakey cdrom.

My suggestion, try reburning them to a different brand of disk using a different pc. Then see if your laptop will read them. If not, may need to replace the cdrom. Though it reads commercially manufactured cd's, if its flakey, it will have problems reading custom made cd's.

Other option, get a usb flash drive and copy those files from that cd, in a different pc, to the flash drive.

You don't need any special drivers or programs in order to copy mp3 files from a cd to your hard drive. Yet, you would need something in order to play them. Which media player does just fine.

Flakey cdrom or flakey cd's... hope this helps.
