SOURCE: no sound though home theater when watching tv

There is an orange button on the remote, half way down in the middle. I belive it has orange lettering and says something like "TV-?" press that, and the sound should start to come through your speaker system. You can then use the original remote that came with your TV and turn the sound off on the TV to use just the theatre system. I noticed that if you use the TV speakers in conjunction with the theatre system, that it echo's.

SOURCE: Protection Problem on Samsung Digital Home Theater

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

Sony amp displays protect and no sound on speakers plz asist.

Turn the volume knob below 3 before turning the unit on. If the volume was turned way up and then the unit turned on it may have blown the speaker protect circuit. It is designed to prevent blowing the speakers. They need to be powered up slowly to prevent tearing the cone.

My stereo sysytem is a mini stereo: serial number 10200055. It currently says "protect", what is this and how do we return our system to normal operations?

Hi there,

When the word PROTECT appears on this display, this means the unit has detected a critical fault which could potentially cause harm to your stereo system.

The most common cause is a short circuit somewhere - something even as simple as loose speaker wiring could cause a short, triggering the Protect message.

You will need to determine if there is a possible short somewhere, so I recommend you start by firstly turning power OFF, disconnecting all speaker wires, then turn unit back ON.

Operate the stereo (without speakers) and turn volume up:
  • If Protect message appears when turning volume up, then stereo unit itself has an internal fault
  • If no Protect message appears, then suspect the speakers may be causing the issue.
  • Reduce volume and turn unit OFF
Re-connect speakers (ensure the connections are secure), turn unit ON:
  • If turning volume up triggers the Protect message again, there is an issue with the speakers or connections

Hope this helps.....

When I turn the system on, The display reads "protection" and shuts off? Please help.

remove all of the speaker leads from the unit, plug in one at a time...could most likely be a shorted wire. or the volume is maxxed when you turn the unit on

After turning ON the power/standby switch, the unit(receiver) display comes ON (green light) then after approx.4-5 seconds the display goes OFF and the unit defaults back to the standby mode (red light). I...

Is the red light flashing at first?
The unit may be going into protect mode. Lets hope it has done the job and the receiver has protected itself from failure.
Protect mode can result from speaker wires touching each other or the Amps2_bing.gif metal case. Check that first.
It can also be caused by unstable ohm loads if too many speakers2_bing.gif are connected to any of the outputs especially zone 2.
If you can remove all speaker wires and turn the unit back on. If it stays on, turn the volume down on the main zone and zone 2 if connected. Then reconnect speaker wires.

It turns off when the volume is turned up over one third of the volume knob, but is the speakers don't interfere in any way

sounds like the protection circuit is the problem here which is a good thing because its stopping you from permantly damaging the unit first thing to check would be the impedance of your speakers and then check what your impedance selector is set to on the back assuming you have one be warned that you should never move this switch while the unit is on.My advice would be to unplug it first because that switch plays a direct role in the systems power supply..Hope this works for you

Protect is ON

Either there is a bad capacitor in the protection unit or you can find the wire that goes from volume control to protection unit and unplug it.
You can also try turning the volume all the way off before turning on, then slowly turn up from there

Need help

Have you connected an extra pair of speakers?. (Thereby loading the amp stage beyond it's capacity)
Are the speakers connected to the unit the original ones the system came with or different? ( Speaker impedance, usually displayed at the back of the speaker cabinet must not be less than amp's specifications....6 ohms, 8 ohms)
If you're driving the unit excessively you're lucky this piece is equipped with protect mode, else your speakers and amp would have been fried by now.
One last possibility comes to mind: High volume causes vibration causing loosely fitted mains plug to rattle in wall socket calling "protect" due to improper feed voltage. Move the unit to another wall socket and ensure a tight fit into mains receptacle.

Help

Hi,

Take every single cable out of the unit, now power on the unit.

If the power protection still shows then there is an internal fault, usually a short or a component defect.

If it powers on ok, switch off and insert 1 speaker at a time and power on the unit until the protection mode comes on again, the last speaker you have put in has overloaded it for some reason, also as you are trying each speaker use the volume and bass controls to see if there is an internal overload.

Thats as much as I can offer you until you narrow the fault down to the unit or one of the speakers.

Cheers

It works a few minites, then stops and displays "Protect".

Your complaint isn't a problem at all. This is a usual characteristic of the relevant amplifier. The protection mode comes on when the main volume/bass/treble or whatever is too loud. Unfotunately, you can not overcome it. But, as they always say: It's a Sony:)
