WET LAPTOP BAD CONDITION

I left my laptop near the window and went out partying. It rained that night and my laptop got wet. My laptop was in shut-down mode but was connected to the AC supply. When I reached home, I wiped it with a towel and tried to turn it on. The power light would come on but the system wouldn;t turn on. I left it to dry the entire night. Next morning I kept it under the sunlight for a couple of hours. Again tried turning on. This time it would turn on but keybord wouldn't work. So I left it under the sun for some more time. This time I didn't see any display on the sceen but only multi-coloured vertical lines throughout the width of the screen and nothing else. I can't connect it to an external monitor as the keyboard isn't working and I can't change the default display. Should I let it dry for a few more days or is the LCD damaged because of the heat???? The notebook is Samsung R610

You tried your best in performing the first step (Leaving it out to dry)

But actually it is posible that the heat of the sun couldnt reach into some parts of the laptop and that some components must have been aftected before you came to its rescue

Apparently water or moisture was still resident in some internal part of the Laptop and this would have conducted some little spike of electricity that might have destroyed some components while it was connected to the AC.The flickers on the screen is an evidence of a possible spike from water or moisture.

Get a technician to open up the Laptop completely. He has to take a good look at each component carefully and clean them up.

Yes theres a possibility of your LCD being damaged but the VGA Card should be tested first.

Your Laptop would definitely come back to normal but not until each component is checked properly

Buy a new battery, if it still dosen't work then you jammed your PC, take it for a repair or to the manufactures. wetting a PC/laptop is not what you need.

The laptop got wet in rain and it is not turning on now

Fyi, 1 drop of water on motherboard can cause the whole board not function. Either you change it or buy a new one. Change it cost a lot of money.

Got left in rain, now dead

Open the laptop and remove everything you can and dry it with an air blower not in the sun. When you are sure it's all dried up,place the part one by one and check. Usually, Motherboard are water resistant but for hard disk it might not work.

Good Luck.

WET LAPTOP

Multicolored vertical bands means that the contacts on LCD ribbon cables are still shorting because of liquid or oxide building in consequence of liquid damage.

Also keyboard is probably not working for same reason.

When you get liquid damage you need to remove immediately the battery and the ac charger, and service the laptop, to prevent more damage caused by shorts.
The service is done by a technician, disassembling the laptop and using a cold hairdryer from distance to dry internal parts.

You must ensure the laptop has no liquid inside before starting it.

In your case I can only tell what parts are working:

If you can see the vertical bands and there is no static stain on display caused by liquid penetratrion, then the LCD is working.

You have backlight, therefore the inverter is working.

To connect to external monitor you can try starting the laptop with video cable already connected, It should start on ext. video.
If you are getting video signal on external monitor, that means that the motherboard is still working.

If you also get windows splash screen (or Linux) , then the hard disk is also fine.

If you do not want to spend any money for this laptop you can wait few more days, with battery out, and try starting it, in the meanwhile oxide can cause more internal damage, that is not the right way to proceed.
The laptop should be sent for repair.
If the laptop is less than one year it will still have factory warranty. However, factory warranty does not cover liquid damage.
If you do not mention that there had been liquid damage , they will probably not realize, and cover the repair, but that won't be really fair toward manufacturer.
To do things properly contact manufacturer and explain them what happened , so that you can arrange a repair, if laptop is fair new they will make an effort to keep quote low.

Do not forget to leave feedback.

Thanks
