Its not a terminal problem but an issue with your CDWRITER or the application you use in performing CD Writing

CHECKLIST
1. Make sure you are using a Blank Empty CD

SOLUTIONS
1. Try formating the Blank disks from Windows Explorer and not from the utility software
2. Check your CDWRITER settings (usually problems do not arise from here) you could set the settings default.

Are there any error messages when trying to write data on the CD?

Cd rom drive reads some cd's and not others

If those other discs are working in other cdrom drives then you could have a dirty cdrom drive, a laser failure, or it could be a firmware problem in that drive. Check the mfr's website for any firmware updates first. If that should fail, then you will need to replace the drive.

What's happening inside is, you have a laser inside that bounces a beam off the disc and receives the beam into a buffer. The beam scans for and detects "Pits" and "plateaus" on the surface of the disc (it's kinda like morse code on a plastic disc.) and the dots and dashes reflect into the buffer.

If you cannot read a disc, that means the laser is having trouble with either:
1. emitting the beam,
2. targeting the tracks where the pits and plateaus are or
3. receiving the beam into its buffer

SOMETIMES a burned disc is harder to read by a standard reader, but not often. Most times it is a sign of dirt on the buffer receiver, dirt on the lens, or inability to scan the tracks. Try using a cdrom lens cleaner, and update the drive firmware. if that doesnt help you, you need a new drive.

Computer does not recognize it as a CD RW drive

When you try to write data to an optical disc, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

* You receive various disc write error messages.
* You experience issues with the drive and the built-in recording feature of Windows XP.
* You experience issues with third-party programs that you use to write data to the disc.
* You cannot read the disc in all versions of Windows.
* You cannot read the disc, or some files on the disk, by using an MP3 player.
* When you add files or folders to a disc that already contains data, some files are lost.
* Recording files to the disc is inconsistent.
* The disc recording operation is consistently unsuccessful.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Troubleshooting specific errors
If you experience one of the following errors, follow the appropriate steps to resolve the error.

* There is no disc in the drive. Please insert a writable CD into drive.
This error can occur if the CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device. This error can also occur if the device driver has been corrupted. To resolve this issue, see Method 3 in the "General troubleshooting" section and Method 1 in the "Advanced troubleshooting" section.

* Drive not accessible, incorrect function
This error message typically occurs when you try to write to a CD-R or a CD-RW, and the Windows XP built-in disc recording feature does not recognize the CD drive as a recordable drive. This error message may also occur if specific third-party programs are installed. For more information about how to troubleshoot this error,

when you access the CD-ROM drive, the DVD-ROM drive, or the CD-RW drive
* Error Deleting File or Folder.
Cannot delete file name. Files on this CD-ROM drive are read-only. You cannot copy or move files over to this CD-ROM drive.

This error message can occur because individual files cannot be deleted from the CD-RW. You cannot use the CD disc recording feature of Windows XP for random-access storage while you are writing to disc.

To set the service to Automatic, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc /s, and then click OK.
2. Double-click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service.
3. Under Service Status, click Start.
4. Try to write data to a CD.

My disc drive on my computer wont read any disc? why?

Hello and happy New Year,
The following could be causes as to why a cd rom does not read the disc. Towers are much easier to work on than laptops because of the space and you do not have to disassemble them as much. The following are some common causes of malfunction.

1. The most common cause is that the optical reader lens is dirty and needs to be cleaned or the discs are scratched or dirty (you can also purchase a disc cleaning kit for your discs themselves). You can buy a cd cleaning disc fairly cheap at most electronics stores or wal-mart.

2. Sometimes the cables can become disconnected or does not make a complete connection inside the system

3. The device drivers could be corrupted and this causes the operating system to not be able to properly communicate with the device. If you are running windows XP or higher you can use the troubleshooting tools to help you run diagnostics on the device. Using device manager is the easiest and you can also update any device drives as well.

4. CD roms work in much the same was as dvd/cd players. If the disc is not spinning or is making weird noises and starts and stops a lot the problem could be that the spindle motor has malfunctioned or gone out. In a case such as this it would be cheaper to buy a new drive because the cost of replacing the whole drive would be cheaper than paying someone to replace the spindle motor, unless you know how to replace one yourself.

5. The worse case scenario is the optical reader has malfunctioned, in which case again it would be cheaper to replace the whole drive with a new one.

I hope this helps give you an idea of what the problem could be and some hints on how to fix it.

If you do not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

Wont read disc

Hello there... Sony seems a choosy brand so it looks like your disc is not recognized by it. Check also your disc for scratches or you just need to clean your disc first before you can use it. Try it. If this doesn't help, try inserting your disc to other CD-ROM. See if your disc is okay. Hope this helps...

Hard drive not Reading CD-R Discs

First off. Your hard drive cannot read CD's. Your CD-ROM is not reading CD's. Well a few things can be wrong there. 1. The CD-ROM is dead 2. The drivers for the CD-ROM needs updating 3. The CD that you are trying to read is curropt or damaged.
Start checking to eliminate and let me know.

My Computer Wont Read DvD's or CDs!

Is the CD drive display in my computer? yes

then clean up your CD/DVD rom for there is dust in it, specially on the lazer lens that let the rom read the CD/DVD.

If no, then; Fix some cable connection towards your CD/DVD rom for it was lessen.

If not fix the problem verify the disc if it is readble by your Rom. Please try another disc in your Rom.

if same happen, then maybe its time for a new CD/DVD ROM.

one last try:

try your new purcahse disc in another computer that is compatible with your disc.

hope this help, melnavz

1. You CD/DVD (discs) maybe damage.

Solution:

1. to sure that the DVD/CD rom is functional try other discs (Any discs that that is clean and no traces of damage.(if work on another discs so DVD/CD rom is good if don't work your discs is good)

if not solve the problem maybe your system had a problem. update me in case.

My dvdrom drive wont let me access the drive

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.

Dvd-rom trouble

Hi, first of all, I'd check if you have the problem with CD/DVDs burned (written on a CD/DVD writer) or you have it also with original CD/DVDs, which would be weird. Depending on your finding to the above point I'd do one thing or another, but to me does not look like a driver problem. I'd check with Toshiba support if there's a new firmware for your drive, this does improve the media the device can read and correct problems like the one you mention. To know the fimware version you're using, open device manager and go find your drive, right click on it and choose details tab. Normally the firmware revision is the number at the end of the instance. Good luck mate !
