Question about Dishwashers

I have a JDB1090AWS about 3 years old. We noticed a smell and found cutting boards and plastic cups melted. Machine was off. Had to turn off the breaker. Checked both leads to element & have power even with machine off. Not sure if it could be the limiting thermostat; I assume that is to shut the heat down when it gets too hot. Element is on though when it shouldn't be to begin with. I did have to tighten the water supply. Had some water underneath, but all wires seemed dry. Any tests I should try? Thanks.

I have a JDB1090AWS about 3 years old. We noticed a smell and found cutting boards and plastic cups melted. Machine was off. Had to turn off the breaker. Checked both leads to element & have power even with machine off. Apparently it is not the limiting thermostat. I replaced it and the element still stays on even when the DW power is off (breaker on though). I did have to tighten the water supply. Had some water underneath, but all wires seemed dry. Any tests I should try? Thanks.I had some input from Fixya about the thermostat, but as I said, it did not fix it.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. It'll be tough with these dishpan hands though.

The heat element can only get so hot. It's timed so it doesn't exceed a period of on, exposing dishwasher contents to continuous high temps.Watch the timer and take note how long it broils your cookware.Good luck.

The next thing to check would be if the lead from the thermostat to the element has gone shorted to ground, and check the resistance of the element, wich should be 5.4 ohms =/- 5%,also check the sensor/thermistor do not check the thermistor with an ohmmeter its a semiconducotr and should only be checked with a diode tester, the schematic shows the thermostat as just a switch it does not show it as a variable resistor or thermistor,so it's possible the thermostat acts on a variable resistance from the element or the sensor.I've included a link to the wiring diagram for reference,I hope this points you in the right direction.www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5169899

Dishwashers have a thermostats that monitors the drying temperature. If the thermostat is defective, the heating element may not cycle off properly. and the heating element will contonuous remain on.and also there is a fan that makes the heating element cold, but if thermostat is defective the fan will not start and the heating element will remain heated still after the machine is off.also in some cases it has been seen that fan runs even if the thermostat is faulty but the speed of fan becomes very slow then usual speed. If that's the problem, you need to replace the thermostat.as its due to thermostat the heating element and fan are not working pproperly and you are getting burning smell.

thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

My Frigidaire oven model feb386wech emits a burning plastic smell when heating up and cooking. What's causing this?

After 16 years of service, the oven may be starting to consume itself. I have found melted light fixtures and scorched, brittle wiring. If you can't isolate the source of the smell, it could be time to replace.

A plastic lid melted on the coil, still smells like "melted wax", seems clean, what can I do?

You will probably have to replace the heating coil in the bottom of the dishwasher to get rid of the smell. The coils aren't that expensive and replacing them is an easy job. Hardest part is getting the dishwasher out from under the counter to do it.

Hi,
Most probably, Electrolytic condenser in the Power supply to display circuit may have punctured resulting in smoke coming out. Take tv to service centre. There is no other option.
Good luck.
Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Are you sure it is a medicine cup and not the float cup that controls the water level ? The float is a cup with a rod in the center that goes into a tube sticking up in the bottom of the machine. The rod reaches through the
tub and sits on a switch that controls the electic water valve. it its easy to replace.

Strong plastic smell and taste on a new Keurig Platnum coffee mak

I had the same problem and I discovered that after running 3 resevoirs full of water through the machine at 192 degrees , it got rid of the plastic smell. Set the cup size at the largest size mug and then just open the lid and close it , hit brew and let it fill the cup. Dump the water in the sink and repeat until you go through at least 3 resevoirs. The smell should be gone by then.
