Question about Gaggenau Cooktops
We purchased a home built in 1991 with an electric Gaggenau cook-top. It has four burners, 2 on each side of a 4-burner electric grill in the middle. 3 of the 4 burners are not working properly, taking up to 45 minutes to boil 8 cups of water. The house came with a home warranty, but this is the third time I have had their technician out and he says he has done all he can do. Meanwhile, the warranty company has told me that "this is to be expected in an older cook-top! I'm looking for average temperatures to be expected from these cook-tops to prove it is broken, not just old. Thanks.
If it is similar to the VE260 model, this induction type of cook top is very old. 22 - 23 years if it came with the home when it was built.
I can only offer basic suggestions of which you already probably know.
These induction type cook tops rely on the pan or skillet to be magnetic like stainless steel. If the bottom of the pan has any buildup of residue, this will dramatically reduce the efficiency of the unit.
If the pans are immaculate, then the electronic elements that produce the magnetic induction to heat the coils must be weak. As old as the unit is, it is probably not feasible to have 3 of the elements repaired....
A new top can be purchased much cheaper. Consult Consumers Reports for unbiased product reviews for your best reviews. As a final suggestion, find someone who is qualified to use an electrical multimeter to read the current on both sides of the power receptacle to ensure that your voltage is 230V. A loose connection on the receptacle can cause the elements to have the same result.
Although I can imagine you have already done everything above, I just wanted to send you what I can offer.

SOURCE: broke glass on electric genn-air
Please do not use the stove if the element is viable because of broken glass, this could become a danger to yourself.
Look at the cost of a new stove, you should be able to get one for
around 400.00. One of my customers had a glass top with 4 burners,
they had the same thing happen, the cost to replace the top was
1,200.00. So I would assume that you can get a new stove with 4
burners less then it would cost to replace the part on a stove you don't like. Maybe there is a LOWES around you to look at stoves,
they seem to be everywhere, like death and taxes.
As for putting a 4 burner top on a stove that has 2 with grill, I don't think it can be done without the extra cost of adding the parts to run the other 2 burners, so like I said in the long run,it just might be cheaper to but a new stove. It should not be a big deal to remove the exhaust from the grill part of the stove.
I looked at the model# you put down, and it does not have a grill,
from what I see, there are 4 burners and a downdraft vent in between the 4 burners, there are 6 models with this part # and none have a grill, only the downdraft vent.
If the model# is right, the cost would be around 300.00 for the glass, and then the cost of having it replaced. So I would say over
400.00, In which case for the same amount you could have a new one, but you must weigh the difference for yourself and see what you think is the best way to go.
If you have any more questions, please post back and everyone is more than willing to help you. I hope I have helped a little.
