First thing to check would be the starter solenoid-mounted on the starter. In the starting circuit, that is the most high use/high wear item. A tech would wait for the no start condition, then check the solenoid wire for power when key is held in the cranking position. If power is there, it indicates a faulty solenoid. If no power, trace the signal back to the ignition switch-from solenoid to starter relay to clutch switch to ignition switch. There are contact points (plates, really) inside the solenoid that become pitted and burned from use, and eventually wear down or out.
You may have a starter or ignition switch issue. I would guess starter with just the information you are giving. Of course with electrical problems proper testing needs to be done to condemn expensive parts such as a starter.
Have you taken the battery posts of and cleaned them sometimes theres corrosion thats not noticeable until you take the cable completely off. It could be your ignition switch. Check all of your fuses under the dash as well as under the hood. You can also check the terminal connections on the starter. If the car has been bumped sometimes theres a fuel relay switch that cuts power to the fuel pump in case theres a car fire or accident.
