SOURCE: Nikon DX AF- S Nikkor 18-55 mm lens won't Auto focus

Is the switch on the side of the lens set to manual or auto? Sometimes it's the little things like this that we don't notice.

The Nikon D40 requires the use of AF-S/AF-I lenses. Here is a chart of lens compatibility for Nikon SLRs:

The only problem with doing this repair yourself, is that upon re-assembly you will need the Nikon software and hardware to readjust and calibrate the lens. Try sending it to PhotoTech Repair Service in NYC. They are Nikon authorized, and can do the repair under warranty if you still have it. Also if you join they're facebook page, they will give you a 10% discount.
Here is the facebook page link, it has everything you need to send it in.

SOURCE: I want to know the parts number of the broken part

The only problem with ordering parts and doing a repair yourself is the re-assembly. Upon reassembly you will need the Nikon software and hardware to adjust and recalibrate the lens. This is not readily accessible as Nikon keeps this under lock and key for authorized service centers only.

SOURCE: I am using a Tamron AF 18 - 250 mm lens on a nikon

What worked for me: on the lens where it contacts the camera there is a little strip with metal leads. Unscrew that and there is a spring underneath. Stretch out the spring gently. Replace and then replace the leads strip and put the lens back on the camera. I haven't had a problem since.

I would like an instruction manual please.

The user manuals coming with lenses most of the time have little information about how to use them. The lens will have a MF and AF and perhaps a VR switch. If you want to learn more about macro photography, check this site from Ken Rockwell, where he is explaining how to do so with a Nikon camera.
Be aware the macro lenses are designed to focus close to the camera and will have the sharpest pictures close to the camera. I would not say you can't use a micro as a tele, but the results with a normal 105 could be better.
Still I think you have a great lens with your Sigma.

Hi, i am using nikon d40 my problem is that i was using 18-55 lens after some years there was green spots on my pics when clicked,i started using 18-105 mm nikkor lens my problem was solved but now af

The D40 is a low end camera, but before you discard it, I would contact the closest Nikon repair depot (see the Nikon website for the location) and ask them for a repair estimate. You will then be able to decide if it is better to have it repaired or replace it with a newer model.

Does the nikon nikkor af 70-210mm telephoto lens fit on a nikon d3000?

Yes. The smaller sensor of the D3000 will make it the equivalent of about a 105-315mm lens on a 35mm film or full-frame digital camera. Also, the autofocus will not work with the D3000.

I have a Nikon D40x and purchased the AF nikkor 50 mm f/1.8D lens a couple years ago, but find that it can only be focused manually. Is there any way to "turn on" the autofocus? I have not had...

Sorry, but the D40x lacks an autofocus motor, depending on the lens to have one. Nikon calls such lenses AF-S. This particular lens does not have such a motor, relying on the camera to have one. The only 50mm lens currently available with an autofocus motor is this one:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/2180/AF-S-NIKKOR-50mm-f%252F1.4G.html

Earlier this week the Nikon web site listed a new 50mm F1.8 lens with an autofocus motor, but then it was removed. Hopefully they will officially announce this lens soon.

My Nikon 18-55 mm lens turns easy when zooming in, but is stiff when zooming out. There is no roughness in the movement that would suggest dirt.

hi there,

the zoom-rubber might have been loosen, so it moved too easy while you use it
you can fix it by contacting nikon representative technical support

thanks

Can i use a Quantray AF LD 70-300 mm lens with my nikon d80? Thanks.

That depends. If the Quantaray lens has a Nikon mount, then yes, no problem, it'll work on the D80. If it has a different mount, then it won't fit onto the D80.
