Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

1 Answer

I can't find the wireless tab

First of all I **** with technical stuff, so it'd be great if you could break it down for me. Ok, so I type in my default gateway, password and username, I get there, and I can't find how to change my security. I go to Linksy.com, and they say, look under the wireless tab. I can't find it. It's not there. The thing that I want to do is change my WPA security to WEP security. Thanks.

Ok, sorry, I think I typed in the wrong model number. I have a linksys ADSL Gateway, model number AG241V2. Does that change anything? I can't find the advanced security or wifi security, sorry.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Why not, what type of message are you getting?

Let's start with Internet Options. If you have Windows XP Click Start/Control Panel/Internet Options. If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 click Start/Control Panel/Network and Internet/Internet Options.

When the Internet Options window opens on the General Tab make sure you have a valid web address as the Home Page. If not, create a simple Home Page by typing: http://www.google.com You don't have to click OK now because if you do the Internet Options window will close.

Click the Security Tab and under where it says "select a zone to view or change settings" Click on the one that says Internet, then scroll down to near the bottom right and make sure that DEFAULT is grayed out (whereas you cannot click on it). You can Click on Default just to be sure. Next click the Intranet so that it is highlighted and make sure DEFAULT is grayed out so that you cannot click on it. Do the same thing for the other two zones (Trusted Sites and Restricted Sites). After all zones under the Security Tab are set to Default click the next Tab which is the Privacy tab.

On the Privacy Tab you want to make sure that DEFAULT is grayed out, if not click on it. When in doubt just click the Default tab.

Next skip over the Content tab and proceed to click the Connections Tab. On the Connections Tab make sure that the Never Dial A Connection is checked if you have something in the white box above it in for Dialup and Virtual Private Networks settings. Look down on the right near the bottom and Click the LAN SETTINGS button. When Lan Settings open up the only box that should be checked is the very first box that says: Automatically Detect Settings. If any other box is checked remove the check from it or you will never be able to connect. Click OK to close the LAN SETTINGS tab.

Next skip over the Programs tab and click the Advanced tab. When it opens slide the blue bar on the right all the way down until you get to the bottom of the window. You want to be able to make sure that if you see something like (Use SSL 2.0, Use SSL 3.0, Use TSL 1.0) that you put a check in the box to the left of each one of them. Afterwards you can click OK to close the Internet Options Window.

Authentication

That means you probably don't have the password or the Authentication Type set correctly.

For Windows XP below:
Click Start/Control Panel/Network Connections then Right Click on the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties. When the Properties window open click the Wireless Networks tab. Click on the SSID for your wireless network that you connect to and the Properties window will open. You can change the Authentication Type to match the type set in your wireless router and you can also change your password or Network Key to make sure you have it in correctly.

For Windows Vista below:

Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center then look to the left of the open window and click Manage Wireless Networks. Find the SSID of the network that you connect to and double click it. When the window opens click the Security tab to change the Security Type (which is the Authentication), The Encryption Type and the Network Security Key (which is the password).

For Windows 7 below:
Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center then look to the left and select Manage Wireless Networks. Find the SSID of the network that you connect to and double click it. When the window opens click the Security tab to change the Security Type (which is the Authentication), The Encryption Type and the Network Security Key (which is the password).

How do i find the network key on a netgear1004 router please? thank you.

you have to hook up thru the ethernet first.......to the computer from the netgear.........once connected go online in your browser...in the address bar type in this exactly 192.168.0.1 and then hit enter, you will see a small login screen user/login= admin, and password=password. now you should be looking at the router configuration page......there will be a tab or button that says wireless settings .....click it. you can change the SSID to a name you can recognize when "viewing available connections", scroll down and select wep 64 bit encryption, scroll down to where a box labeled key 1 is ...........in the box next to key 1 type in a 10 digit encryption (area code and phone number usually works great) and then click apply or save, usually located at the bottom of the page. once the page refreshes , double check your new settings to make sure they were saved...sometimes a router will force its own encryption and maynot save your 10 digit code in key1, if that happens just right down the code that is in it and you should be good to go. close out of all that stuff, pull out the ethernet cable and try to "view available wireless connections", you should then see your new SSID and click to connect with your new 10 digit encrytption code. also some routers have the default encryption code printed on the bottom of the router in a UPC type barcode with the numbers, it will say security pin or something close to that. its not the device mac or cmac.

Type your gateway address into the your web browser, and then go to the wireless tab. It should be under the Security Tab, I recommend to go with WPA2, because they can break into wep and wpa pretty easy.

Wireless router

1. Log into the router with your browser by entering 192,168.0.1 into the URL bar near the top of the screen.
2. Type admin in the user field
3. Type motorola into the password field.

This will get you into the router setup.

Go to the wireless tab and setup WEP encryption. Write down everything you do, because you'll need ti later if you don't remember it.

Once setup, you'll need to setup any wireless computers that you want to hook to the router.

Here's a link to the router manual. If you go through it page by page, starting at page 22, then you should be OK. Key things to setup are WEP encryption. A lot of the other stuff, you don't have to worry with. And, you can change the login user name and password, which is highly recommended.
