Water heater

Most instant-on tankless water heaters require at least 10 psi of water pressure to start the heating process. The flow of water determines how hot the water will be, within the heating range. An electric 110 volts heater will increase the water temperature about 25 degrees F. A gas water heater will increase the water temperature about 45 degrees F.
Too much flow will not allow the water time to heat. Too little flow will not allow the heating system to work. Each heater must have the outflow water flow adjusted for the best heating outcomes. The best way to find the ideal flow is to turn the hot water facet on and adjust it (open or close) until the water reaches the balance of producing hot water.

My water is not hot. Do I need a new thermostat?

Depending on the age of your unit, it could be thermostat(s). The heater has two, an upper and a lower. If you got this new and are familiar with the unit, have you noticed a decrease in the temp of the water or, does it turn cold sonner than usual? It's not likely that both thermostats would go bad at the same time but, if you noticed less then premium hot water supply, you may have been operating off of one for a while. First, make sure your breaker is on and, if you have a timer on the heater, make sure it's working. Also make sure you don't have a remote switch that may have been tirned off. You should have 110v to each element and, you can turn power off and check for continuity. Try turning your thermostats up and see if the heater produces even warm water. If it does, you have bad heating elements.

Remote control error code is C7 or CF, What does this mean?

Hi Bob, sorry for the problem.

Error codes are a starting point for diagnosing problems, and the same error on one machine can have different cause and solution than another machine.
Open following link for Rheem troubleshooting resources that will be handy to keep on file.

Generally C7 is remote cannot communicate with tankless unit.
Your remote is connected by wire back to the heater.
You can turn power off, remove remote wires from connection terminals on tankless, turn power on, check if tankless works correctly.
If tankless works, then problem is the remote control, or wiring, or parts inside tankless.
Chances are good, the wires are not the problem.
New remote costs $99, but that may not be the problem, so instead of guessing, you should call a service technician.
Steps above could restore functionality and water heater will produce hot water at default temperature.

Also read manual for advisories, troubleshooting error codes, and required maintenance.
For example water filter should be cleaned monthly and heat exchanger de-limed yearly.
Tankless are maintenance heavy, and parts and service combined with maintenance makes these units a risky investment compared with expected $1-8 monthly savings from owning gas tankless.
Reading the manual can save some expense, and the link above is a good resource for people wanting to hold down costs.

Repair most tankless problems yourself, same day, any brand for about $330.
