Resistance on precor 576i will not increase

When I start a workout I cannot increase the resistance. The display remains at 1 and the resistance does not change. Sometimes after 3 minutes I can increase the resitance but only slowly and unpredictably. If I get the resistance increased then I can reduce it with no problem. I hvae removed the control boards, cleaned them and put them back. I removed the motor shroud removed cleaned and replaced all the connectors. and it did not help.

This sounds like it's the membrane on the console faceplate. It'll have to be replaced.

SOURCE: the resistance on my Precor elliptical 5.17 will

There is a small motor under the shroud that operates the resistance motor. It is about the size of a roll of half dollars. Have someone use a meter and check that you are getting power to this. When you turn on the machine the motor should move the resistance forward then back. You can hear this everytime you turn it on.

Too Much Resistance on Stepmill


The first step in troubleshooting too much resistance or constant resistance begins with the lower board. You will want to first verify that the Field LED is lit on the lower board. As shown in the video, the Field LED is off initially, when the steps are engaged it lights up, after about 5 seconds the light should go off. If the Field LED stays lit during a workout or after a workout is completed, this is a sign that the console is faulty. There is constant power being supplied through the console keeping a full load and causing no change in resistance. If the Field LED remains lit, the console needs replaced.

If the display stays at 1, then the UP button may be at fault, in which case you would need a new keypad.

Resistance


This could be caused by either a bad lower electronic board or the brake/generator. How do I fix my crosstrainer, magnetic resistance has stopped working


This happened to me and I took the wheel mechanism cover off to discover the tension motor cable had come out of it's pulley guide- so there wasn't enough tension left in the cable to pull it away from the wheel- quite an easy fix for me- hope it is the snake for you!

1. Sounds like you need a new keypad if some buttons do not work. 2. If those buttons do not work either, it sounds like you need a new keypad, possibly the upper board. Make sure the keypad is plugged into the upper board and the connection is not corroded. 3. Older 546s used an electromagnet to produce resistance, newer 546s use a generator and resistor to produce resistance. I have never seen a 546 that used a motor that moves back and forth to produce resistance. Some residential crosstrainers use a motor like you describe.

The resistance on my Precor elliptical 5.17 will not increase. All other functions on the machine work. Any ideas?


open shroud and find the circuit board unplug and plug back in all connection this may sometime clean any oxidation off the connector. this is what I've in their 546's should work on the 5.17

Change batteries in consol of elliptical, but still the resistance or tension does not change or increase


their maybe a loose connection between the upper display and function controls I would pull apart the upper display and check the connectors between the two boards
