Re: charging

I have the same problem with mine. Recently I tried plugging in one of those portable, AA Battery cell phone chargers in the USB port and I was able to see the player work as it had before. This as convinced me that the rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery may be the culprit of this problem. I have not figured out if I can find a replacement yet.

I have a 30g Zune which has not been holding a charge for a couple of weeks. This morning the Zune powers up and then shuts off (even while plugged in). I tried the 'hold down the back button and up at the...

I am not sure if this is gonna work but, since you've tried all other steps why dont we give this a try too...LOL :-)

To troubleshoot this issue, try one or more of the following methods in the order in which they are listed:
  1. Let your Zune device charge for 30 minutes, then disconnect and reconnect the cable to turn on the player. It can take up to 3 hours to fully charge.
  2. Connect the Zune device to a different USB port on the computer. Use a USB port on the back of the computer. Do not use a USB hub.
  3. Use another supported high power source, such as an Xbox 360 console, a Zune AC Adapter, a Zune Car Charger, or a Zune FM Transmitter/Charger.

Note These devices are sold separately.
  4. If you are connecting your Zune device to a mobile computer, make sure that the mobile computer is plugged in and is not running on battery power. Many mobile computers are configured to conserve power when they are running on battery power to extend battery life. This behavior may affect Zune device charging.
  5. If the Zune device is charging slowly, be aware that, for optimal charging, the Zune device requires at least 500 milliamps (mA) of power. Frequently, USB ports that are located on the front of a computer and on some USB hubs are low-power, 100-mA ports. Typically, the high-power, 500-mA USB ports are on the back of the computer. Additionally, when you suspend the computer or put the computer to sleep, high-power USB ports may be switched to low-power, 100 mA mode.
  6. If the device boots to the home screen but is still not charging correctly, continue with the "Home screen is displayed" steps in the following section.

If the device continues to display the full-screen charging icon, continue with "Full-screen charging icon is displayed."
  7. If the battery in the device still does not charge correctly, visit the following Web site to sign in and register your device: (

Battery on Sony Walkman NWZ-E436F

ok, just tried something with maybe a solution....

I was connected via an usb hub to my laptop, then it said battery is full, it apparently didn't charge.

When i connect my usb cable directly to my laptop it started to charge again!!.

My usb hub is not connected to a adapter so all power comes from the USB port, this may be not strong enough to charge your walkman.

Try this (so directly connect to your desk / laptop) it may work!

Sansa Doesnt Charge

You tried everything that could be done. There is an internal component that is defective that will not allow ANY battery to keep a charge. Find out from Sansa if you are still in warranty.

Will not power up

The battery is probably shot. Check voltage. if it is 0.0 then the battery has shut down internally and either needs to be charged for 48 hours, or replaced. Seems these batteries will shut themselves down to protect themselves and sometimes are never able to revive. You can try and charge it from the USB, but I dont think it does that, you need a 5.0V 2A power supply with the proper tip. I think it is a 3mm + center post. You can also remove the battery and check the pins when it is charging, It shoould show some voltage. Also, I dont think you can run it while charging.

Screen says battery is full, but wont turn on

I read somewhere that even with a functional lyra, when it displays "battery full", you should keep charging for another hour. This is said to extend battery life and give you an extra 2-3 hours of power. Either this is perfectly normal, or it indicates that the battery reading tends to be inaccurate. In any case, try leaving it charging even after it gives you the message. Another thing to consider is, how long has it been in the box? I'm not sure about lithiums, but most rechargeables I know live longer when used. Live it alone for too long and you shorten it's life. Could be good to get a second opinion on this battery thing though. If there's a warranty, don't let it waste. Good luck
